I have a 2000 100 series and have an option to 'upgrade' to a 2004. My 100 has 166,000 and the 2004 has appx. 125,000 on her....few details below to ponder.

Mine is dark green and has the standard exhaust manifold crack, a few wonky electronics issues, and other things I've learned to love. It's definitely been broken in.

Both vehicles are essentially stock.

The 'upgrade' is black, doesn't have any wonky stuff going on but it's paint doesn't look as good as mine. It does have the GPS system which frightens me if it 'blows up', I won't be able to figure that out on my own and probably don't have the cash to get a new unit.

In the long run, am I better to hold onto the 2000 because of its simplicity? Thoughts?

Love my 04. 5 speed, Bluetooth phone, backup camera, all windows one touch up and down... Mine is black and it shows EVERY scratch, but she's gorgeous after a good wash/clay bar/wax.

2004 is my favorite year :bounce: But, my usual advice is to look very closely at a vehicles history. For me that would decide a trade or not.

It's hard to say without knowing what sort of money we're talking about, but unless you're dumping bunches of money into your current 00 to keep it running, then it never hurts to wait until you know for sure.

History...my truck was bought used so it's prior maintenance is unknown, with that said, she's run extremely strong for 15 years and still rolls down the highway at 80mph with 4 adult males and 4 kayaks strapped on top. I've had this truck up to the hood in water and definitely put it through the test in her younger years. I love this thing and sentimentally it will be difficult to separate.

The '04 is my fathers so I'd be buying it from him as he stepped up to a 2015 200 series (ehhh). Anyhow, it may work out for me as he bought it new and it has been babied, very minimal towing, mostly around town driving, and no off roading or beach driving!

What's the cost of your upgrade going to run you? Sounds like it could work out well. This gonna happen again with Dad's 200-series???

If it's minimal cost, I'd personally love to upgrade, just to be able to have bluetooth integration and 5spd. Then again, I'd be giving up glass headlights that will never fog up (cannot stand fogged up lenses on 5-10yr old vehicles :meh:). Also the interior and dash of the 03+ is updated, meh. I do wish I didn't have NAV though, I'd love to upgrade the stereo which isn't an option.

I have both '00 & '04. Definitely worth the upgrades for the reasons mentioned above, plus side and curtain airbags. Don't sweat the MFD death. Cases are rare and there are repair options much cheaper than OEM replacement.

Get some 16" wheels so you have some sidewall, and you're golden!

I haven't discussed details with the old man but I'm thinking I'd sell mine and give him the 8K or so that I'm able to get...he isn't concerned about making me pay the KBB that the 04 is worth. He's going to sell it to me for a family deal or sell it outright I'd imagine.

Hmm..to wonder what happens to the 200 down the road :p

The 2004 Land Cruiser has glass headlights.

I had a 2001, and recently got a 2003. The upgrades are nice.
If you love the 2000, you'll no doubt love the 2004.
I vote upgrade. Especially since you know the history and its been taken care of.

With that extra info, get the '04 and don't look back. :)

Sounds good--If I can break my relationship with the 00 I will upgrade, it won't be easy...

Gotta love how attached you can become to a 15 year old, river stinking, wonky truck!

The difference with the 5 speed is huge. I like my 2004 so much I bought my daughter one :D
