Update the TLCA Logo?

I collect old gasoline signs, I have lots of originals, and several replica's, I think this is a great idea. What is the time frame on this logo?

I have my one tlca sweatshirt, and coffee mug. I don't think we have to have a new logo for letterheads, TT, etc, but merchandise with a twist would boost revenue. I know I'd buy a new t-mug-hat with a "new look" of whatever sort, just like I bought new birfield.com lcml stuff when that changed. It's first grade marketing stuff to add new merchandise as a revenue booster...

Chef, you hit the nail on the head.

we don't have to change our logo to put a new face on merchandise... in my opinion. But we also have to be careful to present any new design as just that, a design and not a logo.

for instance, Paul E and I chatted about putting a mini truck in the center of the logo and then adding text underneath which reads 'It's not just for land cruisers anymore?'

while I believe this would sell very well, it may also bother some LC purists... so again, we need to be careful how we present it.

but to clarify my view, no, I don't really want to tackle a logo change at this time.... but we definitely need some new merch. approaches.

Hello all.. I thought I would join up just to add my $.02 ::) First off, ,let me just introduce myself.. I am the currant TLCA Rep for the Yankee Toys (happy that you all like our logo, BTW...) Aynway, I personaly think the logo for the decals should stay the same.. (and I really don't lke that old one.. :P) I am all for seeing a little twist on the store stuff, but for the real logo / decals... I think it does show some old school class and is widely known. So there it is, my $.02 ;)

I agree with Lee.
I think that the current logo is very classy, but that a twist would be cool for add. merchandise.

I my opinion the logo shouldn't change. Stability is an important virtue. We need to support what TLCA was and has become. I am not against additional symbols however. As the Original cruisers get old we are heading in to a new era. There is going to be a day...unfortunately when we don't see numerous FJ40's and 45's on the trail. A mini truck logo,4runner or an 80,60 or 100 series logo isn't a bad idea. Now I have to draw the line at the Rav4 or the sequoia logos!

I agree with atoyot... 8)

Sorry to be bringing up sort of an old subject. I'm a new TLCA member and was browsing through this forum. I'm also a graphic designer, so this caught my attention. I don't think the current logo is that bad, it just looks a little rough on screen. Just smoothing out the jagged edges would help, but it could be updated without changing the logo just be changing the colors. What I think needs more help is the TLCA website. Its very basic - definitely not interesting enough to draw in potential members. I took a couple hours and did a quick example of the logo and site (photo credited to Brad Sather).

I also thought that the logo could change to reflect all the different types of land cruisers (I only did 2) since the FJ40 doesn't include all land cruiser owners.

Just thought I'd throw this out there.

Tim:

First, I LOVE what you've done with both the logo and the site.

Second, TLCA has been searching for someone to revamp their website for sometime, and AFAIK no one has stepped forward. I bet Tony contadts you....what you have demo'd there looks great!

Cothran, that is great work. I also like your choice of color for the logo. I'm thinking the logo could be any old colors and keep the same layout and still be well recognized as the TLCA logo.

wow Tim... very nice.

I can assure you I'll be contacting you...

and I like your approach.
