Just got home. Stepped out and noticed my hazard lights are on. I figured I must have bumped the switch. Got in and pushed the button... nothing. They are stuck on.

I can get them to turn off by starting the truck. When the truck key is on or the truck is running, the switch works normally.

As soon as I turn of the ignition switch, I hear very quick clicking in the dash and the hazard lights blink quickly. Then they fall into the normal rate of blinking.

I’ll disconnect the battery tonight and work on it tomorrow.

Anyone have any ideas what would cause this?

Thanks

No aftermarket alarm installed. Everything seems normal when the car is running. I’ve tried locking with the fob and manually. No change.

Seemed like a weird problem so I googled it. Found a post on an FJ cruiser forum that said leaving the parking lights on then locked with the fob stopped it. The other linked mud thread seems to point to something more involved to fix.

Yeah...Weird! Seems a lot of Toyota’s have this issue. Only problem... all of the threads I’ve been able to find are dead ends!

I pulled the flasher for tonight. That stopped the lights. Unfortunately it also stops the turn signals.

If anyone has had this issue and knows the fix, please chime in.

Thanks again.

**UPDATE**
I went out the next morning and plugged the flasher back in......All good for now! I don't know if it would have worked immediately if I had plugged it back in right after disconnecting. The flasher felt warm when I disconnected it. I have no idea if this is normal or not.

Guru question:
Does the flasher receive constant power from anywhere? If it does, I'm guessing the flasher is on the way out and was shorting somewhere inside. If it doesn't, I have bigger problems to figure out next time it happens.

Bump.
I went out to my GX this morning and I’m having the exact same problem. Where is the flasher located that you pulled out? Did this ultimately end up fixing the problem? Thanks!

One of ours did the rapid flashing which ended up being due to water coming in through the windscreen and behind the dash on the drivers side (Right side / UK), symptoms also included the one with rapid flashing learning the remote for our other landcruiser (so now we have on remote that unlocks both cars) it seems that the rapid flashing indicates it is remote learning mode

I had a problem with the turn signal activating my flashers and eventually this is what I found under my tailgate…

Thanks for the heads up on the wiring behind the tailgate. I checked mine out and it is intact.

Also, it doesn't appear to be leaking through the windshield or sunroof drains. Had a good rain last night and all appears dry under the dash. Let's hope the relay fixes it. For now I'll just unplug it when I park for the evening. Works like it should when the car is running/driving.

i Been putting mine off for some time as well i had windscreen replaced 14 months ago and appeared to be no leaks there ( but always ask them cos rust is a PITA there ) i know my other cruiser leaked from the roofrack bolt holes and id say even though i sealed this one too maybe it moved or bolt had stripped ) ill check again tomorow cos im over pulling the fuse lol .

Having the same issue. Pulling the fuse in the grocery store parking lot makes me feel like a Land Rover owner.

Any fixes?

Just had my flashers go off at 3AM after some hard rain… really hoping it’s just a coincidence.
