On my cruiser, in the middle dash the button for the rear heater is not used , the space under the passenger vent is not used (oppositte the hazard light button and by the side mirror controls there are 3 un used butt0n spaces. My question is how hard is it to make those working buttons? Working buttons that look like they came from the factory. I think I want to connect some aux lighting to one... not sure what I would do with the others.

Another question. Anybody have any idea what coudl have been in that hole between the 2 12v outlets? Has anybody come across a dedicated usb power port that could go into a hole like that and be wired in?

Go back a page or 3 here, same thread asked within the last 2 weeks.

If you yank the panel with the defrost switches and rear heat, you'll see the blank space is pre-hard-wired for a switch not normally used in the US market.

I purchased the switch cover for the non-OEM rear heater from Slee a few years ago. The connections are under the driver's side seat...two circuits for the 2-speed fan we didn't get. But everything is in place...you just need the snap-on switch cover.

Wait...you got the rear heater working or You used that switch for something else by taping in under the seat?

I used the switched heater circuit for something else: Using one circuit to switch my Sanden OBAv2 clutch.

This is great info. In the other thread it sounded as if people were saying you would need to do circuit board work to use it.

I think this is the way I am going to go for my Aux lighting switch. Not sure yet though. I have been trying to figure out weather I want it there or on the left by my knee.....

Regarding the rear heater switch circuit: Everything is in place, relative to the 2-speed fan circuit, including the circuit behind the blank switch location...except the plastic switch cover. Pry off the blank cover and snap/press on the active switch cover/button.

FWIW, at some point I plan on consolidating switches into a single custom panel. I plan on using the space where the garage door opener pocket is overhead. If I had a single-din audio it would be a nice fit there as well. I like the idea grouping buttons by function rather than having to hunt (i.e. all aux light switches in a row). The OE look is great if there's just one button to add.

Upgrade list... newbie revelation

Something dawned on me today. When you get a cruiser... it would probably be a good idea to start at the front bumper, and work your way to the back... and take a good look at the whole thing to try and get a fix on how you want it to be, and what you want it to have. Make a list. Do that a few times. Then organize your list so that as you work on one area of the truck everything that needs to be done, can be done at once, if money allows.

I dont want to take my dashboard apart myself. So I am considering everything that I want to go in there, switches, usb ports, mounts for the computer and phone ipod inputs and whatever else I dream up so that when I take it to a shop, I can have all of those things done at once.

Well, it also depends on your usage & list. Making the list is a good idea, however instead of targeting an area, its probably better to target your most immediate needs first and what is within your budget.

For example, the first year I had the LC I had planned on my first upgrade being a lift but after catching a hidden boulder in the snow, sliders went to the top. A front bumper is nice, but I had planned on getting a rear first, because more often than not, I was dragging in the back, and the rear-Tupperware was getting scrapped (I am just lucky it never completely ripped off). Had I not stumbled on used bumpers/lift, I would have done the front locker before any of these for the peace of mind.
