Where? The hood on my US market 1980 has those. I want new ones

eBay, Instagram, maybe Facebook marketplace. A lot of this NOS is coming out of the Gulf (Middle East). Folks in the Gulf have warehouses and warehouses of old Land Cruiser parts. Fill one warehouse, build another... Space isn't a premium in parts of the world, nor is money.

The era of my hatch falling on my head randomly is over

I had mine rechromed by a friend and did the Honda strut inside and love it.

I think my originals the spring is probably dust now and they are only working by friction so it's a game of how much friction I need to add so the hatch holds open but it's not too hard to open it...
I thought about opening them and see if I could replaced the springs but as they were in usage I preferred not messing with them but now I will probably have a look inside once I swap them.

For the re-chrome, personally I really like the patina that developed on my originals, if I can save them I won't mess with that for sure!

(Except the paint overlap obviously)

Once you open them up you can put gas struts in them. It's just a recoil spring and bushing in them originally.
