i'm hoping someone can save my sanity.
The h55f gearbox died and i'm replacing it with another.
I beleive the gearboxes are the same except the one going into it had a PTO which i removed and blanked off.
My problem is this new gearbox is longer, it has some sort of extension housing on the rear output shaft and the bearing retaining plate is also slightly different.

Can someone help me identify what this is for and possibly the gearbox/transfer case model?

What model landcruiser do you have and what did this other gearbox/tcase come out of??
A little background info goes a long way.

1991 HZJ75 1hz/h55f ute is what has the broken gearbox

the donor car is also a hzj75 1996 1hz and apparently h55f gearbox.
the 1996 cruiser is ex-mining
it has a nifty lift on the back
upgraded suspension on the rear (heavy duty springs and coils)
pto to drive the hydraulics on the nifty lift

thats about as much as i know

in the photo posted above the left is the rear output shaft bearing retainer that came off the broken gearbox
on the right is the replacement, the piece bolted to it is what i'm unsure of as its not mentioned in any of the manuals.
the output shaft bearing retainers are slightly different in size (depth wise)

Very odd,but it looks like you could unbolt it and ditch it.It would be intersting to see the piggyback thingee dismantled.
In the last pic,is that a wire coming out of it?

had a quick look in there earlier today, it takes fine spline, then inside is a loose larger spline with less splines, then back out to the tailshaft as fine spine,
all shafts are different lenghts to the broken one so i cant really adapt it to fit. was hoping to avoid pulling apart the transfercase

also looks like its meant to be a pump but theres no galleys etc

Im wondering if the mines have added it as a sacrificial way of protecting the output shaft

Does it have an extra bearing in that add on housing? Maybe someone thought the output shaft needed additional support. It doesn't really add any protection to it, as it still uses the OEM speedo housing at the end. Stwange?!?!

I was going to suggest contacting them, but I couldnt remember their name. You will want to lose that, apparently it makes them horrible to drive on the road
