Hello, I noticed this cable that looks unplugged. Anyone what it is or where it hooks into?? The cable is circled in yellow in the pictures. It has a white plastic part and the metal wire ends in a cylinder. It’s a 1997 80 series. Thanks!

I don't think that OEM
What is it attached to in the cab?

Added a few more images. Thanks for the tip, I followed the wire around, it goes towards the firewall then loops around and looks like it loops under the fuse box and I can’t follow it afterwards. This vehicle did have an old school aftermarket analog car phone. I took off the positive cable in the battery and the ground cable, those went into the fire wall. Maybe this is related to that? That’s the only aftermarket addition i can think of. I’ll do some more investigating later and try to follow the wire further and try to take some better pictures . Thanks again for the help!

Maybe a hand throttle cable but it appears to be too short to reach the throttle body.

Cocking cable for M240 co-ax mount?

Manual ABS?

That’s a hood latch cable that someone manually routed through the firewall grommet. The plastic end you see clips in underneath the latch behind the driver side bolt

Maybe it was broken and they couldn’t figure it out or didn’t realize how the cable was routed.

Below is the cable end under the latch. Again not sure why yours went through the grommet.

Thanks for all of the great help. I was initially confused since my hood latch works well so I was not sure any function of the truck was damaged. I was changing the headlight bulbs and noticed a cut cable near the battery, wrapping around to the rear of the truck. After getting feedback from you guys that the original cable didn’t seem like a necessary cable, I yanked it and the whole cable came out. Looks like @JoeCova was right, this might have been an old hood latch cable that was cut at one end and left in the truck. Not sure why it wasn’t previously taken out, but I imagine some of you guys have found random stuff in the engine bay from previous owners as well.
