I am working on a 72 40 that has a transplaneted 2f motor. the PO did all the work and to say the least I am getting to re-due all of his labors. I need help with the desmogged carb stuff. I have little knowledge about the vaccum world let alone the carb world. I have read everything on the techs page and have read all that I can find the net, however I am still not getting the answers that I need. Please help!!!!!!!! I have included pictures of three sides of the carb. using a diagram that I found on the techs page I have hooked the primary advance to the distributer, I do no have a vaccum switch that I know of. I have located the BVSV 1 (I think), do I need to hook this up? I could really use some help with this tonight if possible, I would like to drive the 40 this weekend on a sand run. Oh is runs just not very well and won't throttle up.

thank you

What are you trying to accomplish? Is it running like doggy doo? I am reluctant to offer much because I don't know what you have to work with or the compatibility of the components. Hate to see you go running around because my advise dosen't jive with what you got.

Plus the PO may have dealt you more hash than you are aware of!

Since you are new to this rig, you may want to start with the following basics first for engine performance, then arrange the carb and vacuum circuitry later.

Compression test, valve adjustment, measure valve timing (in relation to crank), set ignition base timing, check and set mechanical and vacuum advance curves, measure available spark, measure fuel delivery under loaded conditions..... then find the correct ports to connect to the distributer and tailor the carb to the motor's needs.

Are the tires, axle ratios and whatnot within acceptable (normal) arrangements? A mismatch of drivetrain components (35" tires with 3:73 ratio) can make a sick puppy as well.

do youhave the desmog diagrams? the bvsv you want is the upper one of the 2... umm... on the fuel window side of the carb... the line thats hooked up should be on the more upper fitting, the other 2 (one of which youre hooked up to right now) are for the hac if you have it... search in this section for "desmog 2f" and then click on "my desmog thread" its what helped me a looooot with my desmog that im about to finish (waiting on parts)

ask more specific questions, ill help all i can... im no pro, but i literally juuust went through all of this, and mine seems to be running well, so...

You have tons of stuff either not hooked up or not plugged. It should be one or the other.

I used this diagram extensively when I did mine.

There is nothing to desmog. A 72 FJ40 has essentially no smog equipment.

On the 2F, remove & plug the air rail ports and the 2 BVSV's.
Connect the choke breaker from the center front port, around to the breaker.
Connect dissy vac advance to one of the ported vac fittings (either one of the two lower fittings that is NOT bent).

Cap everything else.

Connect a 12V+ switched power source to the ICS. Ground the other pin.

Looks like the choke and throttle are already rigged up.

A PCV hose plumbed in to the center of the intake manifold would be a good thing.
