Let me see your solution for an under hood light. I can't believe these things don't come with one, pathetic.

Great topic! Both our GXs need a light in there. Guess they don’t want common folk to work on them..? Hah. Curious if the LC Prado has one?

It's a Lexus, who needs to work on it? Here is my solution.

Me likes built in light lol.

Many thanks @Acrad, that is exactly what I am looking for.

One suggestion may be to use waterproof LED flexible light strips that can be trimed to length:
Amazon product ASIN B00HSF66JO
One could run a line of the lights around the inside perimeter of the hood and also maybe a short strip inside, along each fender. This would provide plenty of light for looking at almost anything under the hood, from the dip stick to any leaks lower on the engine block and of course good overhead lighting.

Also, I wonder if these wouldn't work for puddle lights! Probably provide a lot more light than just a single LED by each door.

I keep one of these in my door pocket also!

I keep mine around the front seat head rests when traveling.

Interesting thought... How would you power it?
