yea, the oil mat that's on the hood...
does it serve and real importants?
the 60's been sitting awhile(2yrs) and the mice apparently got in it. it had a real nice fire hazzard going on.

the only thing i see, is the possiblity of reduced under hood temps.
 
Do you mean the under-bonnet soundproofing?
My 60 series cruiser has the moulded soundproofing under the bonnet (hood).
It's only job is to keep the engine noise down. If you remove it then it wont effect the operation of the 4WD.
 
I think what it does is reduce engine noise as you're driving along, and it protects the paint on the hood from the engine heat. I've read on this list that an FJ60 that has faded paint on the hood is typically missing the blanket. You can purchase them new from toyota--I got one earlier this year for mine for about $150. part number: 53341-90A00.
 
Sorry for the steal, but where do you get the drive angle thingy 2mbb?

I didn't think about that for the hood either. That explains the cars that I see with their clearcoat coming off.
