Un-evenly worn bfg mudders

Happy Friday all!

I have a question about a new(used... new to me) set of bfg mud terrains. My buddy just about gave me a set of 33x12.50 bfg m/ts. 2 are a bit worn but the wear is even.The other 2 are unevenly worn, to give an example if they were brand new I would say they have about 60% on inners and of course 100% on outer, I hope that makes sense. Appears the guy who owned these never rotated the tires, the wear is on inside (white raised letters)and thought i would use a permanent marker to color letters black and flip them to try to achieve a more even wear, although ive heard you can never repair uneven worn tires.

I would imagine the tire hum will be very loud due to the high knobs on the side of tires but thats ok, i wont mind, BUT are there any other risks involved (eg, damaging tie rods overworking sterring box etc).

The rig will be primarily as an around town truck and occasional off roading. I am not nor was I ever expecting a smooth new suv comfortable ride, so I am completely ok with a rough riding rig. I have 4" downey springs and 5125 bilsteins

If photos would help, as soon as rain tapers Ill take some.

Any suggestions or concerns?

Mud terrains can wear unevenly as they are are very aggressive tire. Frequent and regular rotations with good alignment can help levitate the wear you describe but hey, you bought them used at a considerable savings I hope so what do you expect?

I see no problems other than noise as you describe so if you can live with whites in/out go for it. You ain't going to get them to wear evenly at this point.

Your conditions/steering geometry may be totally different than the original owners so it is all up in air.

If around town means mostly slower speeds and stop and go stuff, the price is right so run 'em!! If I spent a lot of time on the highway I might be more concerned and would want a better ride...

Marcelo, if ALL the other components in your steerin and suspension are truly tight, then you should not have any issue. Unfortunately, most cruisers I see are not, and unevenly worn tires just esacerbate the steering and/or suspension issues.

Hey Mark hows it going, staying dry? The steering is good to go... you did the rebuild of steering components, hahaha rememba! Still could use a box rebuild, or maybe ill just do p/s upgrade.

Times are tight and the price was right, and as long as most agree they will not create any issues or dangers on the road im completely happy.

put the uneven ones on the back, or you'll be all over the road from the rig ruts.

just put the worn tires on the rear less tread to the inside ... leave'em all white out and runn till you can get more tires ... sounds like you buddy didnt get his truck align'ed like he soulda

i got flamed for saying this once but i still hold true to it BFGs SUCK every one i have ever seen wear weird (especially on the front of a chevy)
but if he gave them to you run em till the wire shows or till you can afford some real rubber
they are going to start wearing faster and faster as they get more and more worn though so start shopping now

Thanks guys, I did put the badly worn on the rear. Bad tires or not, WOW they make my rig look alot nicer than the 245's I had with the 4" lift.

Funny you say that zrheard, there was an old tire guy about 80 year old owner of the shop who mounted the tires. He looked at them and said bfg mudders SUCK, flat out! The guy has been in the business for like 50 years, tire guru.

I will drive these till theyre bald, then ill decide if i want to get new mudders or at's.

Tires were the first major purchase I ever made I spent 11 months reading every bit of info I could find and talking to everyone that I could find worth while to talk to. I will never purchase bfg was my first conclusion. I didn't want Goodyear bc I thought they along with procomp had sidewalk issues. I couldn't afford tsl radials and I finally chose Dunlop mud rovers SAMs stock them they were 130$ at the time for 33x12.5 LOVED them. But that was on a very light jeep I bet my heavy as hell 40 would run them bald pretty quickly. Do your research!!! Tires are themotet important part of your rig without traction you can't move forward you can't STOP and you can't really steer...
My question to everyone though why the bald onesto te back? Wouldn't that make the rear end more likley to fishtail especialy in the rain??
