I have an ugly stripe going down the side of my land cruiser. It is all faded, etc.

I have seen this on others' LC's as well.

Is there a fix for this?

I keep thinking there must be a "sticker" of sorts that is maybe even already pre-cut and I can just cover it up.

FYI: Another guy I talked to got a quote of over $1000 to get the fading to go away. If I remember correctly, he was going to paint it.

Please see attached photo.

Thank you for your help.

I'm thinking about plasti-dipping mine. It's an lx470 so I may just do all the cladding with it considering how chipped up it is from door dings.

That's a good idea. Is it easy to get off? Or is it super glued on there?

Where would one go to get it "Plasti-dipped"?

Search trim painting... Lots of detailed threads about it on here... I repainted my trim and stripe the same color as my factory paint (riverrock mica) and it came out very nice... I ordered everything here:

^including masking supplies, factory color matched paint, clear coat, etc... Prep work is key if you want it to look good!

second that, what color is your truck?
the best part about plasti-dipp is if you're not happy with it you can tear it up and redo it

I have a silver 100 and shot a coat of Mazda gun metal on the trim. It looks OEM and came out great. Mine was faded, peeling and dinged up from other doors.

Plasti is easy to put on / not that easy to get it all off of you change your mind. You can use gas to dissolve it and it works but is messy.

Also, if you feel inclined, you can paint the cladding (I did), just make sure you get a good adhesion promoter, and sand and clean very well before you spray. Also, plan it so you have a low humidity day to avoid the shadow effect.

Home Depot or lowes will sell cans of it in the spray paint section. It's a rubberized coating that is quite durable and 100% removable. You could spray your entire car and just peel it right off with no damage to the paint. For a few bucks a can, it's worth a shot and you'd only need 1 can of it. It's really handy for blacking out emblems.

My rig is vapor blue so I think I'm gonna do my bumpers first and then go from there.

The tacoma guys love it:

Pinstripe matched to factory paint. Cost me 30 bucks. Can't tell the difference from the original.

Had mine on for a little over a year...looks new!

I've done mine at home with a half a day (allowing time for each coat to set up) with molding that looked much worse than yours. An easy DIY if you take your time and do the right (simple) prep. Plenty of threads on this topic to help.

I dont recall what I spent on materials but it was less than $75.00

Mine is painted metallic grey. Truck had a full repaint cause of florida fading. Looks great. I vote for paint.

Those of you that have painted, did you remove the trim or paint with them on the vehicle and just tape/mask around?

If you did remove, how easy is it to take them off and put them back on?

Left mine on as removing trim sounded to be both a hassle and potentially expensive if you need to order new trim pieces due to broken retainer clips.

It was very easy on mine to work painters tape in between the trim and body panel.

leave it on, maybe remove bumpers/reflectors/lights

+1, leave it on - way easier and faster

I have ordered the paint. I'll be sure to post pictures. I ordered a light silver. For the life of me I can't tell if it used to be silver, or a dark gray. I look and look and can't determine if the silver flaked off revealing dark gray, or the dark gray flaked off revealing the silver ;-)
