Ugh, just had to vent. I got a rock chip on my windshield yesterday...of course on my month old truck. I know I can get it fixed, I just can't stand rock chips. I used to get them all the time in my 4Runner. Oh well, just had to get that out of my system. :) Damn rocks...

Sorry to hear - you're not the 1st and certainly not the last.

Because of this, I always get Clearplex on my new cars as I want to maintain the factory seal plus my insurer has crap coverage (State Farm). It's a plastic shield with better optical qualities than the plastic film you'd put, say, on your front bumper to protect from rock chips.

I've had it on for about two years and no issues even as a regular wiper user. Good luck.

I feel your pain, but you made it longer than me. I got my first rock chip (to hood and windshield right in my line of sight) when the rig was two weeks old just as I was getting to my hunting spot ....

I had mine for a week and got a chip that turned in to a crack. Safelight replaced with an OEM glass very well done, for under $700!

I just had to get my windshield replaced - got a chip right on the edge of the passenger-side - did not see it till it grew to an 8 inch crack. $1500 :(

...time to look into this Clearplex stuff that Overlake mentioned

the guy who installed mine did mention how much more the Lexus class was... do they have heads up display on the 200 series?

I installed ClearPlex after two windshield replacements. Working like a charm so far.

Well, I wish I had known about Clearplex before. I had the chip fixed, but there's still a little pit that's going to drive me crazy now.

Maybe we should have a commiseration thread - I just got some pinstriping hitting the trails over the weekend and had a detailer buff it out, but can still be seen when the light hits it at the right angle. Pisses me off. When will I get over it? :)

Ha, that's a good idea. I'm certainly not a complainer by any means, but when scratches and dents that aren't your fault happen to your brand new baby, it's good to have other people around who feel your pain. :) I can handle little things that are my fault on the trail, but when it's not your own fault, that's when the venting comes out!

Agreed. I guess I should get over it since I did it. The 200 is a big rig.

I have a scuff on passenger seat from people who just can't seem to understand the concept of side steps. They just slide and leap off of the truck. It's lifted so all the more reason to use the side steps. Humans - so illogical.

also got a star with a 6 inch crack... all shops wanted to replace it but my LC was only few month old and I would not handle well any problems with replaced glass (leaking etc..) so I used a crack eraser DIY kit. It worked really well! Long cracks can be repaired even when shops say no..
