U-Haul Auto deck Trailer fit FJ55??

Just installed a class 3 hitch (2" channel) on my Toyota Tacoma/prerunner/TRD in preparation for picking up a FJ55 from out of the area. (well in hopes of one... just lost out on a sale )

Question: Does the deck of the UHaul auto carrier fit an FJ55??
I've done the math, and think it would be OK, but want to see if anybody has tried this.

(and yes-I know that I am close to max load on my truck, but if it's a short drive with no passes, I'm going for it!)

Mine fit on uhaul car hauler but made sure I had skinny tires. I would tell uhaul your trailering a car. A Pig come up over weight for some of uhaul equipment.

Yep, just towed one with my Tundra from Jacksonville, FL to Dallas a few months back, and was cruising at 70 most of the way. The wheels are the chromies off my FJ62 with 31x10.5's.
Honestly I would not want to tow it with anything less than a full size truck.

I got an 80 on one running 33's. Tight fit, but it worked. I agree with telling uhaul it's a car tho.

don't mean to rain on that parade, but if you tell Uhaul that it's for a car to circumvent load ratings and you have an accident, you are likely up the proverbial creek... I doubt the lawyers who wrote the fine print on the contract have not anticipated that one...

(not to mention that the NSA knows all about this thread now... )

Appreciate the advice as well. Good to know others here have used the same set up. Short range I have my Tacoma, long range with passes I have buddy with a V8 that will do the trick.

When I get my rig, follow up with photos!!

I might have missed it but you might want to set up your Tacoma with an actuator for trailer brakes. My Tacoma has had no problem pulling a trailer with a load on it. Stopping it quickly if needeed is another thing. Not sure how U-Hauls car trailers are set up.

yes I towed my 60 a few times with a trailer as pictured in post #4, at the time I used the 3/4 ton suburban I owned back then. Out of the 4 or 5 times I used the uhaul trailer (1) the stock tire straps will not work if you are running 33 inch tires on the towed vehicle (2) pay attention to the air pressure in the trailer tires.

Uhaul trailers are setup with surge brakes...you don't need a brake controller.

I did have one run in....with a uhaul trailer....one time I never go past 50mph...without getting too much sway in the trailer. I double checked the air in the tires and no matter how i moved the truck on the trailer it made no difference, I can only assume they trailer was defective. A few weeks later on I bought my own trailer.

The trailer as pictured in post above...did work well except for the one time as noted. Make sure you have an extra ratchet strap or two in case the tires on the towed vehicle are large. My post may be after the fact but maybe it will be helpful.

I'd try to borrow a 16' utility trailer or car hauler if It were me. That UHaul trailer is a heavy SOB! Especially if you are pulling with a Taco. Just sayin...

It was a "female dog" towing it with my 4.7L V8 Tundra (sorry didn't spring for the 5.7L), and I can't imagine a V6 being able to handle it. I second the vote to borrow a utility trailer, but in my case I didn't have much of a choice to deal with the over-built Uhaul trailer for my employer sponsered move from FL to TX. I just used a 6x12 Uhaul trailer today to pick up the M416 trailer I bought through GovLiquidation at the Army base in San Antonio and that trailer weighed less but was still a heavy SOB with the surge brake set-up and the ramp. I need to find a friend with a trailer next time I decide to pick-up something that will not fit in my new to me M416.
