I am looking at the 4 plus flipkit and I was just wondering if anyone knows how thick the bottom plate is. They say the top is 5/8 but no spec on the bottom. Thanks.

Ben

just went out and measured mine.

bottom plate 1/2"
top plate 5/8"

Is this the one that Man-A-Fre sells? Their bottom plates bend and require another plate to be welded on to reinforce it. Ask me how I know.

I love this answer, "tell me how I know."

Had the same problem. When I inquired from MAF they told me I was being a gorilla. They are nice quality, but I doubt I'd buy them again...really need to be 5/8". Fortunately it was a issue that I'm not too concerned with. How'd you reinforce it?

the bottom plate can't bend if it's on right, Theres nowhere for it to bend to. The 5/8" top plates were bending on the 60 front but that was recently changed. Unless you mean the shock pin. That can bend if you set down on it. It's a 5/8" pin

check the pic at this link, do you have the bottom on correctly? I've seen people put them on rotated 90 degrees

Yep, they were installed correctly. Confirmed that one with MAF. All you gotta do to bend them is torque down your u-bolts. How did they change them? Must've been relatively recent, or possibly they gave me the previous flawed design when they tried to send me previously used parts with my OME order...wouldnt surprise me at all.

Honestly, I wouldnt worry too much about it. Perhaps they've figured out a new design, and if not...yours wont be any worse than mine! Maybe add some ribs or some 1" strips of 0.25" plate?

Nope, the bottom plate bent on all four corners. The little groove for the U bolt makes a weak spot and the springs, over time, push the ends of the plate down. I got out the BFH, flattened them out and welded in an additional 3/8" plate. Problem solved, but it should never have been a problem to begin with. I suppose the pavement lovers will never have an issue.

That's wierd over 1000 kits sold between the 40 and 60 and no one has ever reported the bottom plate a problem . The only complaints were the FJ60 top plate and an occasional bent shock pin. That includes three season of ARCA competition with Tracy Jordan and Don Robbins. Hardly a couple of highway vehicles

The change was recent. The top plate has two ribs welded on where they contact the grooves in the top perch

My bottom plates are bent, but it follows the spring curve. It isn't going any further so I'm not worried. It would be nice if it was 5/8 or 3/4, but oh well. I have a really old set and I bought them used. no problems yet.

yeah, I can see the plate follow the gentle curve of the leaf pack but I don't know how they could bend down . The pack springpack is quite thick at the u-bolt and I would hope the spring never bends there. I would expect an eye to bend first

After having the poo flexed out if them about a thousand times, they will bend. Blame it on Moab.

I read all about the bending issues and decided to stay away.

Maybe in the future i'll buy a set and "fix" them before installation.

That's what I would do. I love the kit, I used the parts when I did the SOA. I would go into it knowing that some welding should be done prior to flogging it, that's all, or fab my own...
