Tyre squeal when turning (1 Viewer)

in the local Taco bell parking lot (before it burned down) they re sealed the back top and it is slippery, my plain jane LTX's made noise in turns, not full on scrub like it would with it locked, more like a light wet sneaker on leiolium noise,

wile I was putting the front locker actuator in thursday I had the front passenger tire off the ground, T-case in nuetral and the tire spun with some light resistance from the VC as it should.

I have never checked the alighnment but my LTX's were used when I bought the truck and still have even tread after 65K, the alighnment must be OK,

I agree.

It'd be stupid to spend five minutes finding out for yourself for sure.

Point taken.

I know if it were mine I'd be checking it. Neither of my 80's makes any noise while turning, unless it happens to be on a particularly smooth surface like a gas station cement drive.
If I caught stripes out of the corner of my eye while hearing hoofbeats, you can bet I'm gonna be straining for a better look.

It appears that I came off a little differently than I intended. I meant absolutely no disrespect to anyone trying to help snowwolf or the ideas put forth to do so. I was simply trying to do the same. Everyone seemed focused soley on the CDL and I was pointing out another possibility might be the cause becuase I felt he would have had much worse symptoms if his CDL were locked.

Back to basics maybe?

Assumptions:
It doesn't have a CDL switch to accidentally hit. He's new. If he were in Low/locked he would be saying how it races to go 20. I'd put the odds of it being locked without being in low about 1:10,000 if it has never had a CDL switch installed.

Where I would start in order:
1. Tire inflation.
2. Alignment.
3. Worn tires / damaged belt (in tires).
4. Broken or badly worn steering component
5. Bad V belt. Maybe it isn't the tire squealing?
6. Low power steering fluid. Starving pump sounds enough like tires that a newb might get them confused.
7. Steering pump dying. See 6 above.
8. Squealing brake pads / worn brake pads.
9. Brake calipers. Is one failing to retract?
...
9+n. Driveline.

But then, I'm only a   on my best days.

YMMV.

I thought of that, and even wrote a post about putting it in 4 low and making sure the CDL light was functional (if it is, and not lit, then the CDL would not be engaged) but then I realized that the driveline could conceivably be locked or binding due to some other malfunction- such as the VC locking for whatever reason. The approach of ensuring that the front and rear drivelines are not locked together- for whatever reason- is valid. It's highly unlikely, but possible. The original problem was made to sound fairly severe, and not just a case of an inflation issue. Meanings are often misconstrued in text, so all possibilities should be suggested, and eliminated if possible.

Mine would do that every time I would accidentally roll over a small Miata. Apparently the screeching was being caused by the person who's hair was burning on the exhaust manifold. I just turn the wheel back and forth a bit and give it some gas and the Miata usually becomes unstuck.

So we agree then...? He should start with the basics before jacking up the truck in gear (dangerous)?

It realy sounds like poor inflation, bad tires or an alignment/steering issue to me, but then, I haven't heard it. :)

Failing that, I could see how a locked up driveline could result in the same symptoms. I liked the write up on how to check if it is locked. I'll remember that in case I ever suspect that mine is.

An asside...
Every now and then when I push on the skinny pedal and let my foot off the left one there is this incredible screeching sound and the back end slides all over the place. It seems to only happen with the ASR button is turned off and quiets down about the time I hit 70...
Asside off.

Essentially. My point is never rule anything out until it's ruled out. Also, there are ways to prove the driveline is working properly without jacking it up and running it. If all 4 wheels were off the ground it wouldn't prove anything; if they weren't, something bad would likely happen.

Always start with the simplest solution- that's for sure.

Wha???

No. This should be done first just to rule it out, even though I do agree that it's unlikely. Heck, it should be done just for fun regardless, like I did when I was pondering it. It's free, simple, and let's you possibly learn a little about your truck. Why would you not do it??

Wait a minute; you didn't think I meant the truck should be running, did you? If so, my apologies: In each case, just try to rotate the raised wheel by hand.

Truck OFF, parking brake ON, and chock the three non-raised wheels if you like. (I did the rear two but failed to mention it.)

That's an impressive bump! I met my wife, dated her, got married, and had four kids since the last reply in this thread. o_O

The OP hasn't logged in since 2013, so I think it's unlikely he's going to reply. If you have a similar problem, probably best to start a new thread than look for an answer in this one.
