Hi

I am not new to the forum but am a new member. I've looked around for many things and have always found my answer in these forums. But I have never found an answer to how I can safely take chrome off my wheel ( i hate chrome) and how I can get a "machine face" finish on my wheel without resorting to a machine shop. I've got quoted $150/ wheel and well it's not worth it. I only spent $85 on the wheels. The tools i have that might work is a sander, and a dremel tool.

My second question, I am about to paint my car. This is going to be a one time paint job (most likely). I've found many nifty DIY collapsible paint booths here. But I can't seem to find info on tool that won't burn a hole in my pocket yet will give a proper spray.
I am reconditioning a Mercedes Benz 190e Evo 1. I love the car, but also want to keep it on a low budget.

Any info or redirection to info will be much appreciated. :)

Thanks

If you look around I think that most guys that have done their own paint jobs and want a decent, single time use spray gun go with the HVLP gun from Harbor Freight. Think the gun is about $30 and will last you at least one paint job if not two.

As for the wheels, I think the chrome is actually bonded to the wheel so you are pretty much screwed on that front. You might try media blasting it. But if you are looking to do this on the cheap you are not going to be able to. Best thing to do is to use a wirewheel or something to rough up the chrome and then spray over it with your color of choice (not sure if guys prime first but I figure they would).
