I have two FJ55s, early 1970s vintage. They are not running - but with your help, one may yet return to life! The first one I've had since around 1990, and has (to the best of my knowledge) the original running gear, 6 cyl engine with 3-speed trans floor shift version. The good news: engine, trans, xfer case, and axles all worked well when it was parked around 2000. A few weeks ago I made sure the engine turned (manually), put on some jumper cables, gave it a squirt of ether, and she fired right up!
The bad news is the interior and body are shot - she was retired in 2000 because I had to jack the body up off the frame to get at the spare tire. About the only sheet metal worth salvaging will be the hood, and maybe tailgate and a door or two. Some of the glass is good, the rest is not.
I found the second 55 a few years ago, intending to combine the two rigs into one. Fairly decent body, with rust holes in the usual places - rocker panels, bottoms of the fenders. There is an engine block but no head or manifold. Trans, xfer case, axles are present but condition unknown. As I recall, most of the glass is good. I would classify the interior as "shabby."
Both rigs will need to be trailered because of the age of the tires. They are located about 35 miles north of Santa Fe, NM. I could deliver to Santa Fe or Albuquerque for sure, other near-by locations negotiable.
Hoping for a buyer with the time, energy, and enthusiasm to return a classic machine to the roads and trails!
Asking $1,700 for the package. Sorry, I'm a brand new member and haven't earned the ability to post pictures yet, but can email pics to interested parties. Feel free to call me at 505-670-0688 evenings/weekends, or leave a message during the day.
