The latest Overlander 4WD magazine has the specs on the V8 diesel for the 200 series.
They are claiming 650Nm of torque from 1600-2600rpm and 195 Kw at 3400:grinpimp:
It also has from the magazine ,quote " Its force fed via DC motor controlled variable nozzle twin turbochargers":D
It has a 6 speed auto ,I guess its the Aisan tiptronic used in other 4wd.
Strange, there is no mention of a manual:confused:

According to the article ,some heavily disguised 200 series have been photographed in the Cooper Pedy area(South Aust).
Man,it is uglier then Mickey Rubicons old 80 series:D

Manufacturing begins in September on sale in November in Oz.
 
I'm curious to see how big and heavy they are. Rumoured to be substantial increase on the 100 series.

I looked at buying a new V8 troopy but couldnt justify the 70k price tag for a work bus took one for a drive wasnt as quick or responsive as I thought but have spoken to people who have brought them and they really stand alone when under load more torque at low rpm than than expected I just hope they didnt tighten the lackies too much or we will start to see lots of second hand gear boxes and tranfer cases:)

They will have them in 2 lengths,one on the existing 100 series wheelbase and a 8 seater with a 100 mm extension in the chassis.
The body is 40mm taller and 30 mm wider.
Sounds like they are built on the 100 frame and floor.

They are not cheap but selling well,I heard its 4 month wait if you want one to your specs.
Motoring journos say it would go better with some higher ratio diffs or a rearranged gearbox ratio's

Just wait till the tuning chips come out. It'll be very easy to push the 70 series engine up to 200 series power, it's a guessing game what the 200 will be capable of.
 
Unless sold in large numbers in the US i wouldnt expect much in aftermarket performance chips.

Where's the logic in that?
None of the japanese or european diesels that're currently chipped up were sold in the US.
 
Hmm, much too me would be taking the stock 195kw & doubling it (if sold in large numbers in the US) not as per the 1hdfte chips.
Having said that the 650 Nm figure is really what its all about to move mass.
 
Will you guys stop bragging about your sweet diesels please. The jealousy state side is getting out of hand!
 
Its funny how everyone drools over a 12HT or 1HD T but sniffs at the V8 diesel's alleged lack of HP.
Strange as they all have similar cc:confused:

My prediction is the 1st series of V8 engines will have a modest output and as the vehicles are upgraded ,so will the output.
Who knows,maybe there is room for longer cranks and much bigger bores!

It's the V8 stigma.
Back 10 years ago, there was about 3kw difference between a holden V6 and V8 (big difference in torque though). The common perception is V8's should have huge amounts of power.

One of the aussie 4wd rags was of the opinion that the 70 series V8 had been detuned that far to fit with the vehicles handling. Only expect more power in full time 4wd vehicles with disc brakes on each corner.

Boring and stroking is the old way to do it. More boost is the modern way. BMW's 535D engine was running 42psi boost about 4 years ago. Wonder what they're up to now?

Old way,new way. You cant beat cubic displacement ,all that squashed air still needs somewhere to go and if you can squash it into a bigger volume then all the more power.
The petrol V8 in the Lexus 4wd is being massaged out to 5.7 litre from 4.7;)
(and they are releasing a Commodore in oz with the new 427;))

I've heard modern diesels described as a turbine with pistons stuck in the middle.

The new commodore with it's 427 cubes will still have less torque than the toureg, rangerover and Q7 diesels.:D
