I would like everyones input here.

I am putting together a twin sm465 kit to be for sale within the next couple of weeks. The kit will include a new input shaft for the 2nd tranny, an adapter plate, the shifters for the T.C. (twin stick or single) and the grade 8 hardware to put it together.

The questions I have are How much to charge? (I'm thinking around $900) Where should I advertise?

Any other tidbits of advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Have you actually tried this?

IMO you will junk the synchros in the 2nd transmission very quickly...

The MiniTruck guys have been doing Dual Trannys on Pirate.. the few that have done it say its working ok..

I LOVE the idea of having that many Gear choises..

Id say Charge whatever you need to do cover production of the parts+ your time.

Is this for a Cruiser T-case?? i dont know if that will survive.. Maybe a 205? ITs going to be a heavy Driveline regardless..

You could put any T.C. behind the second tranny you can find an adapter for. I would be sure to recommend something heavy duty though. I don't think the stock FJ case would be up to task, unless you were running a fairly weak motor. You'r right though, it definately isn't light.

As far as the synchros being at risk, doubt it. There have been numerous people running the sm465 doubled. I've never heard of a problem with the synchros. The main problem with most I've seen/read about is in the joining of the two transmissions. I've found a better way.

Very cool, I have been thinking about twin 42's becasue I like Toyo parts. I think a split case would survive.

And if you did this for h42s you would prob make a killing.

You're not using the second tranny to shift through as much as you are a crawl box. Yeah, rotating mass would eat at your syncros, but if you're using it as a crawl box instead of a primary transmission there shouldn't be any issues.

I am now looking at using a powerglide for the first transmission for those who like an auto. The powerglide is very small, very strong and there is a bunch of hi-perf parts available.

Already started production on the twin 465's, not quite ready to sell yet but close. The powerglide is just for fun. I figured there were a few out there who like auto transmissions. Might as well make something for everyone.

Have any pics of this?

As soon as my machine shop gets my adapters back to me I will get some pics taken. When I do I'll get some posted.

Um....yes

Still waiting on my buddy to get me his powerglide so I can mock it up. Still don't know if it will work but it will be cool if possible.

The TH400 will be easy to adapt to but pretty damn long to try to put in a short wheelbase vehicle...

Just an update,

I have yet to receive the powerglide from my buddy, so until I do that project is on the backburner.

The dual sm465 adapters should be machined this week. I haven't messed with the shifters yet. I've been thinking about just selling the input shafts and adapters as a kit. It would keep costs down and allow people to fab their own custom shifters.

Good idea????

I think so...

most people that would be installing this probably aren't scared of custom shifters...

get some pics once you get it all...

I think it's a sweet idea. Next you'll have to figure out how to mate the second tranny to a transfercase, but eliminate the tcase gearbox to make it shorter. I don't know much about american tcases so I don't know if this is a possibility, but it seems like an sm465 mated to a 205 minus gearbox would make a great 4speed transfercase.

Also a second idea here, if you had two sm465's couldnt you run a pto on the front and a hydrolic motor into the pto output on the second 465, and get a hydrostatic drive if you really wanted to go low? Don't think anyone would need it or want the weight, but it seems possible.

good luck on this.

I've already figured out how to plug the tranny directly into an np205 transfer case. The transfer case shifters are a problem, though.

The only update is I picked the wrong guy to do my machine work. He has had almost 2 months to do the job and all I've ever gotten from him is promises. right now I'm looking for a good deal on a
Bridgeport or similar mill so I can just do it myself.
