ok, it's not that freakin' hard, but i've installed it every way possible and i still get "no signal". is the box crap?

ive got one hd tv in the living room and a tv that was my parents before they gave it to me in 92 in the bedroom. i have comcraptic cable to both tvs. comcrap is also getting rid of analog signals, but i read that they are required to continue with local stations for a certain amount of time. so, my old tv, which used to get all the basic cable stations now only gets the five local channels. i've hooked it up in both rooms same story. i've also hooked up the new tv in both rooms and it works fine in both rooms.

so, i bought an inet converter box and i've tried hooking it up with the dvd player, dvd converter box and the tv. run the autoscan and get "no signal". next run it with just the tv and run autoscan, get "no signal". hook it up before the dvd converter box, but without the dvd player and get "no signal". hook it up after the dvd converter box, without the dvd player, run autoscan and get "no signal".

i'm really learning to h8digital.

anybody have a clue what's going on or should i get a new tv, beat the crap out of mine, drive over the converter box and tell inet where they can shove their converter?

On the TV in the living room do you get HD right off the cable or does go to a set top box from the cable company first?

From what I understand the HD from the cable company is not broadcast but closer to an on demand packet based system, I don't think they have the bandwidth to send all the HD stations at the same time along with internet and phone down the same pipe, converter boxes are more for picking up HD from your local stations off air using an antenna.

I set my mom up with a converter box and an out door antenna she loves it, no cable there, too many tree's for satellite and were to far for analog over the air = for years no TV at all . the HDTV signal goes further and can be picked up, she gets 5 stations 3 PBS, a CBS and a CW station,

direct from cable coax to tv

It sounds like you have Comcast cable and they have upgraded your area so you need a "cable box" from them to receive any service. This is normal and they should have contacted you via your monthly bill to tell you that you must go to their office to pickup a box for every TV in the house. They will add that rental fee for the boxes on to your monthly bill.

Now, this Inet Analog to Digital conversion box you purchased has nothing to do with your Comast cable and actually is totally not compatible with their system. To use the Inet box you will hook it up directly to your TV with a set top antenna or "rabbit ears" as some call them connected directly to the conversion box. Do not connect it to your cable tv cable or anything else. It needs a signal from a plain old set top antenna. What the Inet box does is convert through the air digital signals to analog so your old TVs can use the signal. After Feb 17th unless you have a conversion box your TVs with through the air analog tuners will no longer work since everything will be broadcast in digital. Cable tv and Dish tv are not effected by this conversion.

If you have cable tv or dish tv and don't want to pickup through the air tv you can return the inet conversion box. If you want to keep Comcast cable you need to go get some cable boxes from them.

we've got 3 convertor boxes. One of them brand new out of the box wouldn't work at all. All 3 of them are the same brand name, maybe it was a fluke, similar to you I moved stuff around from TV to TV and it turned out to be the box, so I returned it and got another, problem solved.

that sucks. before i rent some box from comcrap, i'll get a new lcd tv so i can eliminate any boxes, including my dvd converter box. :frown:

I am not sure this is true, I read it would work on cable in the local newspaper. besides, she has her newer TV that take digital inputs that works right off the cable. The old analog TV does not work.

My guess is that the box is bad or the signal output is too poor to be recognized by the box.
