Turbo oil return (1 Viewer)

I am new to the 80. 1HDT and the small metal tube on the bottom side of the turbo seems to be leaking.

Is this indicative of major problems inside the turbo or just a leaking seal or line?i

Looks like a leaking oil drain to me. It could be coolant leaking as well. Can you tell if it's oil or coolant?

It is definitely oil

The small metal oil feed tube are known to crack at the flange.
Either source a new replacement, or remove it, clean it up and TIG weld it.

They can fail catastrophically.
Mine cracked, and dumped a shìt load of oil fast.

Is this a pressure or return line?

The small steel line is fed from pressurised oil gallery within the engine block, so yes, it is under pressure and supplies oil to the turbo

Yeah I was able to get new so didn’t bother welding it.

Don’t recall exactly. Either Japan or UAE. Did it the same time we did the GTurbo upgrade, rebuilt injection pump and exhaust manifold replacement (cracked)

This is the part for a '98 HDJ80.

The design was altered to alleviate the problem with cracking (the extra plate between the thin feed line, and oil return was added)

I used this part when I fitted a 1HD-FTE turbo on a 1HZ.
I had some trouble with fitment, but 1HD-FTE turbo cartridge is different.

If yours is pre '98 with stock turbo it should be a direct replacement
