The view certainly has been changing for you!:hillbilly:

Keep up the good work!

For those who might be interested, the drawings were dropped off today and the pattern maker will get to work on it next week. He says to figure about 4-8 weeks for him to complete the pattern and then we will be ready for the first castings. Since a couple of people have shown interest in the manifold I've committed to 5 units on the first pouring.

Attached is the line work from the drawing showing how the final product will look.

Looks terrific Rick, as always another great product from you! I think that you need to incorporate "Wing Nut With Garage" ASAP!:cheers::cheers:

The possibility of a $650.00 manifold exists and when coupled with a T-60 turbo a $2000-$2500 system could be built.

So Rick, does this price range still seem on target and if so, do you plan on offering the complete kit (what would that include?) or just the manifold and let the others pick and choose stuff to their liking?

Anyway, as always, great stuff!

a lot will depend on the pieces you use. I'm planning on a high end setup with a GT35R. This is a BB turbo and it cost me $1400.00, so a 2500.00 price target is not going to happen.

The big pieces are:

Manifold
Turbo - T4 variation
wastegate - Tial 38mm
BOV - whatever
intercooler - whatever

and with my setup the MAF housing for fuel management.

The rest is pipe and plumbing for the most part. When I finally get to actually doing the install I'll start another thread and try and catalog what I use and where I got it from to help anyone who wants to also do this type of project.

I thought about a total kit but then it needs to be designed around a specific Turbo and intercooler. Those choices can really have a big effect on the final price. So do you go top shelf and big price or low end and cheap? The end result would be a disaster no matter which you choose.

I had a design idea when I started this and watched EBay and looked for deals to save money. I wanted to go with a liquid/air intercooler and found what I needed used. I got a 700.00 intercooler for 200.00 and it came with hoses, pump, pipe and fittings. That's the best way to shave some money off a project like this and still get what you want.

Thanks Rick!

I can't wait to see the manifold and how the rest of the WNWG (Wing Nut With Garage) products come together!;)

Please keep up the excellent work!

Still interested in the manifold, FYI. I have one of the cheap eBay ones and have started test fitting but I'd MUCH rather go with something like this, esp. after seeing the result on the MAF project on my truck!

Curious as to what a/r & trim you went with, and which intercooler. I've got a bad habit of finding a deal on something that would work and buying it in case I can't get a deal on what I *really* want. I'm going to have enough parts to do 2 trucks by the time I'm done...

Cheers!

The GT35R has only one T4 housing and it's a .82 ar I believe. It comes with a 3" v-band which helps with the space restriction for the down pipe. I looked into an integrated watse gate but then you would need a cast down pipe to fit everything in there and that's a cost I didn't want to deal with unless necessary.

I should add that I don't really know much about the cheaper T-61 turbos and the like. They have different trims and I'm not sure which one would be a good choice but those can be had on Ebay new for around 750.00, half what I paid. MsgGrunt used one of those on his build. There is an old thread out there discussing turbo selection and it would be a good read and maybe worth a bump to get fresh info on the subject.

I thought I'd go back and look at the pricing again since it's come up and didn't want people to get excited if I remembered wrong or if there was a price increase since I last looked.

here is what I got: -all new-

$225.00 Tial 38mm waste gate
$200.00 HKS BOV
$300.00 intercooler, this price was doubled to allow for the plumbing (air/air)
$300.00 My MAF and new sensor, trucks ran ok without it for years so not really required.
$650.00 manifold, ESTIMATED cost and hopefully a realistic target.
$750.00 Garret turbo, oil only center section To4B I believe

so a total of $2425.00 and there is still the down pipe, oil lines and some misc check vales and brackets to mount or move things around.

And here is a link to a site concerning the use of ductile iron as a material for exhaust manifolds.

Well the next phase has been completed and the pattern has been completed, For those not familiar with the foundry process, it has basically two parts. The first forms the outside of the part and the other forms the inside or passage ways.

The first set of pics so the form for making the outside form of the casting.

I realize that this is very rudimentary in appearance and quite boring compared to lifting a truck but it's a mile stone for me in my quest for Turboing an 80.

I am hopeful in having the first casting by the end of the week.

Keep the information coming Rick. Great project!
