So it's time to do a front brake job. Instead of just replacing with fresh parts, I'm going to do the Tundra brake upgrade.

As I understand it, this requires Tundra front rotors, and Tundra front brake calipers. All else is bolt on. It even uses the same pad as the 200 Land Cruiser (LX570 in my case).

Question is, I don't know the exact part numbers and if there's any variants in the Tundra line. All I know is that I need a 2nd generation part (2007 to present).

Experts, chime in if I need to be looking for more specific parts (part number, 2wd/4wd tundra, 4.6/5.7L tundra, etc.)

With the introduction of the larger 2016 brake system, I will be phasing out the current kit I offer. I'll likely have some parts to clear out, so keep an eye out for info and a Sale on those parts at my store.

Interesting development and it's great that you're keeping at the forefront of this.

Nevertheless, I'm still interested in the incremental upgrade rather than just getting new of the same rotors. No disrespect bjowett, but I'd like to source the parts myself rather than buying a kit.

I just looking for a 2nd gen Tundra caliper and rotor? Any trim from 2007-2014? Anything else I'm missing?

Hey Brian - that 2016 based kit that I assume you're building, will it generally be plug and play with a 2013? If so I may wait, otherwise please PM me if you offer a sale on your current kits.

What I'm doing is partially what you are after. The whole point of the kit was to make it easy to bolt on the larger brakes to the pre 2016 200... at a good price point. Now that the 2016 has the larger brakes, it will cost about the same to purchase the required parts right from Toyota. The small mods made to the Tundra calipers and LC brake lnes are no longer required... Just buy the 2016 LC calipers. Pick a rotor, pads, and splash shield, along with any various hardware you would like, or needs, to be replaced.

I see no need to supply the kit any longer. I have plenty on the table for additional upgrades past the factory system. Shortly I will post a list of what is required in order to add the factory 354 mm brake system.

Rotors, calipers, pads, and splash shield. If you look up the Centric rotors on the 2016 they are the same aftermarket part # as the 2013 Tundra. Only open question to me is if the splash shield is different. Anyone with a 2016 and a camera willing to take a photo of the backside of their front wheels?

I appreciate your thoughts bjowett, and your brake kit is most definitely a good value for new.

With the Tundra out as long as it has been, I'm trying to take advantage of the huge inventory of used or reman calipers out there. Pairing that with a new OEM front rotor (as I'm a firm believe that OEM strikes the best balance of qualities). I don't mind modding the splash guard if that's all it takes.

If I'm deluding myself that that it's as turn key as I imagine, please let me know.

The Tundra caliper bolts right on to the knuckle. The 2010/11 and up Tundra shields have large vents which really help reduce rotor temps over the old style. The LC brake line will not connect to the Tundra caliper. The LC uses a banjo bolt, the Tundra a hard line with flare. You will need to machine the caliper to accept the LC bolt and line, or come up with a shorter rubber and hard line that will plug directly into the Tundra caliper.

Well that changes things. I could probably find a brake line that might fit from the chassis to the caliper rather than machine the caliper. But it's probably more effort than it's worth since I don't plan to do any serious late apex braking with the LX.

It's more for capacity in Land Cruiser type situations, towing, big tires, long mountain passes.

Yes, only the front is upgraded on the 2016.

Brakes definitely heat up on long off-road descents. In Ouray high mountains, you absolutely need to use manual shifting in order to use engine braking on the long, steep descents throughout the region.

Here are the different part numbers between the 2009 (the year I own) and 2016 LCs. It's probably the same part numbers for all pre 2016 but I didn't verify that. The pads appear to be the same which didn't seem right. That should probably be double checked. The ABS wire is different between the model years but I was thinking that wouldn't require a change. Someone correct me if I'm wrong or if I missed anything.

Thanks, are there any other parts needed? What about rear? According to another post 2016 rear brakes are different part numbers than pre 2016.
TRD Brake Pad Part number: PTR09-0C111
Is there is a part number for stainless steel brake lines? Do they replace the brake hoses?
SQOD: Do I need to order 2 rotors or are they sold in pairs?

Forgive all the questions as I am not a mechanic and want to order all necessary parts and deliver to my mechanic. I found a website giving ~40-42% discount on parts.

Re: pad pad # - I noticed the same thing when I looked online before. I assume the size of the pad is the same, but the new caliper either has a different fitting for the brake like or more likely has the piston positions changed slightly.

That sure would be an important detail!
