That was a neat trick he had taught the 40.

This one should be more limber.

Yeah, it would do it on command. Never did teach it to roll over though.

When is it test time outback? Have acouple of places to test it on

any updates Tim?

Well the RV has a new water pump, the 80 has a new muffler, the wife and I enjoyed Key West for a week, and I passed my CFM exam. Time to get back to work!

Last time Skrewball was over, he inspired a completely flat skid plate that uses the 2" body lift to its full potential. I've spent that last two days trying to make my interpretation of his vision a reality.

I bought a stick of 2x2x3/16 a stick of 2x3x3/16 (sliders) and a sheet of 48x96x3/16. I was pleased to see a tractor trailer pull up to IPOR at 4:55 on Friday with the delivery. They use the Just-In-Time inventory method to the max.

2x2 was added to the bottom of the framerail, giving me 26" of clearance to the ground.

Most of my time was spent making a crazy looking front crossmember that is removable and provides clearance for the front driveshaft as well as the tools needed to get to the troublesome AA bolts. I found a piece of 2" x 0.120 wall tube laying around that worked perfectly. It was sleeved and bolted in double sheer to match the design on the other end.

I'm headed back out this morning to see about getting some 3/16" cut and fit.

Stay tuned for updates...

Taking a break for lunch and thought I'd give a quick update. Had a 6" wide piece of 1/4" that wanted to be included in the skid plate. It will end up flush with the bottom of the 2x2 and then the whole thing skinned with 3/16, I think. This thing is designing itself as I go. The hex head will be replaced with some 8mm countersinks as soon as I find some.

If it gets much warmer in the shop, I might have to take off my hoodie! :flipoff2: I've got a small window AC out there and I'm holding 81 with outside temp at 90 something. All that insulation and drywall paid off!

This is as far as I got. Takes a long time to locate and drill all those holes. This piece is done and ready to bolt in when the paint drys.

Nice work as usual.

Now with the 4runner redo about done, I will have to come up and see it in person. looks good Tim!

Looks nice! Where did you say you bought that from?

Is updating mud with progress pics easier with the shop computer??

You bet it is. Also useful for live streaming Ultra 4 events when you are stuck home dog-sitting.

I did get a little bit done on the project in between RCQ updates. I installed a new 14 bolt seal and Toyota adapter flange from High Angle Driveline. Both me and my Torque wrench give out about 250 ft-lbs, but I don't think it is going anywhere. I had to get creative to keep from spinning the 39s in the shop with the wheels chocked with 6x6s during final torquing. (The shovel attachment came in handy)

I gave the stock '86 standard cab driveshaft a quick coat of rustoleum, greased the U-joints and bolted it in. (If anybody has a spare one of these lying around I'm interested in picking up a spare - this is likely a weak link)

I think it would have been cheaper to buy one in the end, given the hours I have in this thing already.

Here it is all bolted in. I think its going to work nice, especially when I skin the whole thing with 3/16" again.

The RV got a little love this weekend too, in the form of what may be the world's ugliest, yet functional, dual tire carrier.

Hopefully my friends won't have to see this abomination again as I'll just strap the tires to the trailer when I go to offroad events and use the hitch for a better purpose.

Finally, I removed the non-functional 40 lb cast iron exhaust brake from the RV. I thought this may be causing an increase in EGTs from a flow restriction, but its effects were likely minimal after investigation. I'm glad it and it's hack wiring job are removed though. Really glad I bought those band clamps - made the patch much easier.

Planning to drive the wife and two dogs out to St Louis next week in this, so I'll be missing ANOTHER club meeting. Sorry guys. However, I'm considering the St Louis trip as practice for a potential trip to CA in February if anyone knows what I mean. Need to get all the bugs out it.
