Finally read the MT Truck Trend article. A couple of interesting points. According to their spec sheet, the vehicle had 235 hp. So that means they also did not have an AHC equipped vehicle and VVTi. Not that either one of those should make a difference.

1. The interior of the Toyota is far and away ahead of every vehicle except maybe the VW. Just because it is new does not mean it is put together well.
2. Reliability and durability were never mentioned
3. This test was definitely biased by Advertising Dollars…

Only question that needs to be asked, Which one would drive around the world with just a change of tires?

ps - No comparisons to other trucks. Just talking about the article.
Dodge Power Wagon
Hummer H3
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Land Rover LR3
VW Touareg

Agreed, and

OK. Once again would you choose that over an new LC for a round the world trip? I am going with the LC for expedition type conditions, not some chevy with a boxy body and super duper low range.

Based on your current question it would only make sense to drive the LC around the world. You could not get parts in most of the world for those other vehicles. The LC design has been around for a while, it's available in most markets, and parts are reasonably available.

Dodge Power Wagon = truck
Hummer H3 = 5 banger
Jeep Grand Cherokee = unibody
Land Rover LR3 = only similar vehicle
VW Touareg = it's a car on steroids, period.

Motor Trend sucks and their articles are irrelevant.

Factory lockers on the Power Wagon and low crawl ratio on the H3 are cool.

I skimmed the article. They said w/ more aggressive tires and w/o low dragging hitch it would have easily placed higher on the list.
They also said it had one of the easiest times over the shale-rock portion of the test. The Ram, by virtue of mass, had one of the toughest.

It also has a series of pics of the JGC almost sliding off a hill climb and getting strapped out. Didn't read how the others did on that climb.

The unibody T-reg's doors "creaked and moaned like a ship"-- and that's a tight, new vehicle. Incidentally, I've seen a few T-reg's and Porsche Santa Fe's w/ a massive, sculpted plastic rr tire carrier-ugly, but also inconvienent -so you get a 2-fer I guess.

the LR3 would be nice but I can't get over these things: 1. reliability 2. IRS 3. cheap interior materials. But I have never been into LR's either. Otherwise, I think the LR3 seems like a nice pkg.

Powerwagon looks impressive tho doesn't it?
(dont know which button is more tastey, lockers or swaybar disco!)

uzj but the H3 would stock vs stock, it's got all the specs man
firsttoy the seat heater button is the best one man

OK just kidding guys. :D

I sometimes wonder about mag tests to be honest. I'm still wondering about that swaybar disco on the powerwagon though, just need a way to retro fit it to other vehicles.

The powerwagon has the right idea, just a pity they had to put it on a HUGE truck. Maybe DC should have done that to the new Jeep GC rather than just trail rated badges.

I assume they didn't even test the 06 LC. But then again it gets pretty hard to take any LC serious with 18" wheels (dunno what TMC was thinking).

Probably that the Cadillac Escalade sells 30,000 units a year with optional 20" wheels.

Truck Trend sucks

I have to much time on my hands. I sent the editors of Truck Trend an email telling them how much wrong information they have in their rag. If you read the reviews of the comparo you would think the LC would end up 1st or 2nd not last. Also read the 4runner final write-up on their long term vehicle. It was a 2004 and they stated it was the 1st year of the 4th generation 4runner, wrong 2003 was the first year. They also stated that the 5 speed transmission was added in 2005, when it was 2003. They also stated that the VVTi V8 was added mid year 2005 when it was added at the start of model year 2005. They also stated why do you need a LC when the new 4th generation 4runner is so good. These guys at truck trend are just plain stupid. I also read other reviews and write-ups in this issue but it would take way to much time to post all of the mistakes I found, I am sure there are many more then the ones that jumped out at me. Their information is so bad that its almost criminal. :flipoff2:

they compared them, how? its like comparing an apple to an orange.

LC all the way!!!

The fact that they have a full-sized dodge truck in the shootout truely shows their stupidity....
Why have 5 SUV's and then a truck?
Perhaps a G500 would have been a better idea.

Well the V8 has always had the 5spd auto. The V6 switched from the LC 4spd auto to 5spd auto in 05. So they are accurate, 5spd was added in 05.

Not correct the long term 4runner was a V8. The V6 was never mentioned in the article. The DA didn't even know he was driving a 5speed or he is a very poor writer, maybe both.

They all have 5spd and VVTi now so who cares if they were off on a few things. It's not worth getting in a bunch about.

Your right, it's not worth getting upset about and that's why I stated I must have way to much time on my hands. when I'm writing emails to Truck Trend telling them how screwed up they are. Maybe you guys can help me work through my problems :D
