I am finally able to dive deep into the rebuild of my 1995 HZJ75.
Currently in for LS swap, tranny and transfer case rebuild, ARB lockers, lift etc etc.

One decision still to be made is which tires to put on.

My goal is to keep the overall feel of the truck as true to its previous life as a safari truck in Tanzania as possible while improving it's overall off-road capability.

Looking at my options for "tall skinny" tires and narrowed to two likely candidates. Any personal experience with either tire would be very appreciated.

Option 1) Kenda Klever R/T in 35x10.50R17
Option 2) Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T in 255/85R17

I've been really happy with the Mickey Thompsons in that size. Put 30k kms on them on my FJ Cruiser and have now moved them over to my HZJ73, I'll measure tread depth when I get a chance and report the average after that many kms. They worked well in some pretty bad winter storms and have been good in dry off road conditions / fire roads. Cannot speak to performance in the mud though, haven't had them out in that enough to have any valuable input.

So average tread depth is 13/32 and new is 18.5/32 which I am happy with after just over 30k km's of driving.

Have those exact Klever's on the HDJ81 and they have been good. Not quite 35" but that's advertising.
Running Cooper ST Max 255/85/16 on my HZJ75 and have no complaints.
Tall and skinny is the way to go, and I also carry heavy duty tire chains in case I need to go just a little further in narly conditions.
