I thought I would post a few pictures after pulling apart my trollhole carb in search of the corporate of a stuck needle valve. I could not find much for pictures on this when I was researching before I pulled it apart.

Here is the needle valve and the reassemble process.

Here is a picture of the float installed after being readjusted with a 19/64" drill bit or 7.5mm.

Here are some pictures of the carb being disassembled.

Luckily we did not have to use a razor to separate the gasket between the two halves.

You can see here the two round cast pcs that still had some metal shavings hanging off them. I expected these to be a cleaner cast pcs.

Quite a bit of unfinished metal----

I had the same issue with shavings in mine, After giving up , I went with a city racer Fuji Japanese carb , life is good again .

I had no luck with the TH carbs either. I went through three of them trying to get one to run right. All three had different symptoms, but all were hard to start and I got tired of messing with them. Rebuilt the original and that worked well for a few months and then it started having issues as well. I'm guessing the ethanol gas may play a part in the quick demise of the Aisin. I finally bit the bullet and installed FI from AFI. Best thing I have done to the FJ40. Always starts and runs better that it ever did with carbs. I highly recommend the FI mod.

I have three TH carbs that I would make someone a good deal on if anyone is interested.

I tried to fire up the engine this weekend after the past carb disassemble. Unfortunately, we ran into issues again. It fired right up for about 5-10 seconds and then appeared to be flooding the engine again. I pulled the plugs on the carb bowl and drained the fuel. The bowl was completely full, hence the reason we had not been seeing any fuel in the sight window and probably the reason that the carb was leaking fuel everywhere.

The bowl also had fair amount of small debris in it so we disassemble the carb again to check and see if the debris was holding the needle valve open. We did not find anything specific but what a PIA to pull the carb off and reassemble again. We made some adjustments to the float again. It would appear that the tab on the float to make adjustments is not cut back far enough to really make a difference. I took few pictures. The screwdriver is pointing to the location that the needle valve is in contact with the float. I pretty much have it flattened out now.

After we go the carb reinstalled, I decided that it would be best to install an inline filter between the carb and the fuel pump. I should have done this from the beginning and I hope it works. Here is picture of how it is set up. I will post one of it installed as well. The fuel filter sits on top of my power steering pump bracket. I am somewhat concerned that it will get too hot and melt. I will post a picture of it installed as well but didn't take one last night. Thoughts?

I forgot to mention, we started by checking the engine timing. Made sure it was set to BTDC where the line is on the fly wheel near the BB. We made sure the DUI dizzy was aligned properly on the #1 spark plug. Rechecked the firing number before we tried to start her up. I bet throughout the day of trying to get her to run we pulled the spark plugs 5 times. After a long day, we decided to check the oil due to the fact that it had been flooding so much, leaking and the exhaust mainfold had a pool of fuel in it when pulled the carb. Sure enough the dip stick smelled like fuel so I drain the oil last night and it came pouring out like a waterfall. I read that if you get gas in your oil it could cause some issues, luckily it has not driven at all with this oil just a few weekends trying to get her started. I pulled the plug again, spray fogging oil in the cylinders so they are not. I plan on filling it back up with cheap oil and my hope is that with the new inline filter, the flooding issue will stop and I can get this baby running. Any tips on other things I should check?

Does needle valve have rubber tip ? If not, try one from carb kit.
Yes it has a rubber tip. It also has a separate pcs that insert into the needle with a spring. I would assume all needles are like this so it applies a small amount of pressure to the needle.

Apparently, this is what the stock Aisin looks like. Picture stolen from Cruiser Corps. There appears to be much more adjustment and it looks like the needle would land in the middle of the tab.

If starvation was the issue, then I would question the rubber tip. All tips will close as long as no debris is present (and the float is working properly); not all will open easily or properly.

Hey Mark (the legend)!! The fuel is definitely getting passed the needle and overfilling that bowl. I have been thinking about sending my Aisin 2 barrel over to you and getting it rebuilt so I can test the difference between stock and trollhole. I have an extra F single barrel carb that I can send as well if it is of any value to you.

I will be happy to rebuild your stock carb, and to give you credit for the 1bbl.

The only thing I will say about the Chinese carbs is that they remain to this day consistently inconsistent.

I had two separate TH carbs I could never get them to function properly. Rebuilt an original and all issues resolved.

Ok thanks Mark. I will be in touch.

This picture is not a correct Cruiser float. It should not be bent up like that.
