Hey guys. Due to quite a few requests, I have just finished the design and will be taking orders on the new System Sierra. It's a split drawer system that works as a whole, but each side can be purchased and used separately. Great for you guys who need to run a third row seat. This way if you ever want to upgrade to a full system, you only need to get the other side so your original investment is not wasted. You can find all of the details on the website at www.trekboxx.com. There is another thread that has some updates and details a sale that we're having until October 17th.

TrekboxX sale and other cool stuff!

I'm quite happy to see this.

Could one use the left side of system Alpha only?
As it is, no. The center section of the Alpha is not a straight vertical. It's offset to maximize space in the system and therefore does not end in the middle of the truck. It would need to be redesigned as well as the integrated fridge slide, which is CNC cut, bent, jigged for welding, etc. So the long answer is yes- it can be done, but I'd need quite a few folks wanting to buy one to make it worth the cost it would take to redesign it.

Glad to hear it!

Been waiting for someone (other than ARB) to make something like this, FINALLY!

Ending in the center of the truck to allow for a third row seat is not a concern for me. I just want the extra empty cargo space and low floor for approximately half of the cargo area most of the time. If anything, I might add a flip up or removable platform for the other side that installs and stores easily for camping trips.

I have to have at least one third row in. This is definitively going to appeal many family rigs.

This is the slippery slope. If I try to make a product to appeal to every customer's individual needs, I just lose money on R&D. Bottom line- I can make absolutely anything you want in one of two instances. Either you end up paying a serious up charge for a custom setup (not advised) or there has to be enough requests for the same product. I can do a 1/2 Alpha, either re-designed to end at the truck's centerline or re-designed to be stand alone. Either way, get a consensus and you shall have it!

Very cool Dave. Do you have a source for a good fridge option for this setup (to go on top of one side)? I love the MSA drop downs, but I can't seem to find anyone who sells it in the states. Any other ideas? I think Tembo Tusk has one, but it almost cost the same as the drawer. haha

I can't really say for sure. The Tembo Tusk units look to be very good quality, and the owner/designer is a hell of a guy, but I have no personal experience with them. IMO all of the drop down units are quite complex for what is a pretty simple problem. This is why I made the Alpha system. I just didn't see the need for the added complexity, weight, and space requirements to gain a few inches of vertical drawer space. That space can be used more efficiently on top of the fridge in the form of a shelf. Even with a drop down slide you can't really stack stuff on the fridge and still deploy it. So now you need to add a barrier around it. I think the TT units are around 22" wide. So now you have 24-25" of space used up for a 15-18" wide fridge. It's also unlikely they would actually fit on a single drawer while still being able to open and use the space around the wheel wells.

Not trying to bash the drop down idea, it's very clever. Just giving you some of the reasoning I have gone through in this regard.

Fair enough. I doubt there would be enough demand for a half alpha at this point and I think the Sierra could be utilized with a fridge via some sort of aftermarket refrigerator option as suggested above and even in previous threads.

That said, as kids grow up and needs change, some of the Sierra owners may want to add the other side 1/2 alpha style. If you were to add this as a later option, would it matter which sierra we started with?

My initial reaction would be to do the "Alpha" part on the passenger side, only because those who wish to keep one seat in the 3rd row for now would probably want it on the passenger side. Normally the access to the 3rd row would be on that side, and you wouldn't have to crawl over the drawer to get in the 3rd row seat. Having said that, there are a few reasons the existing Alpha system has the fridge on the driver side. It's less of a visual obstruction out the rear behind the driver. Also, there is more room on the driver side between the main box and the interior trim due to the HVAC in the passenger side rear. This makes the space between the fridge barrier and the trim actually a useable size on the driver side vs. the passenger side if it were switched. I'm open to your thoughts, though.

Just fyi, this is a sale, not a group buy. So, you will need to order your system sometime before Oct. 17th to get the discount. The earlier the better for lead times. The more orders that come in the longer it will take to complete new orders. Shoot me an email initially with what you are interested in and we'll plan a time to chat on the phone. I take all orders over the phone so I can discuss your needs with you and make sure we are building the right product for you, correct color, etc. You can send email to info@trekboxx.com

Great info. I agree with your thinking on this 100%.

Are these 12 inches high like the earlier models? Is the removable work surface intended to be a cutting board?

I assume they prohibit the second row seats from reclining freely. Do they only make it to the first lock or can you eek out a second or third click with the drawer in?

Thanks.

Yes, they are 12" high. The work surface can absolutely be used as a cutting board. It's Richlite, the same stuff used in high end cutting boards, like Epicurean, etc. It's a phenolic resin and recycled cardboard product. It's sandable if it ever gets too roughed up. Personally, we use a thin cheap cutting board to protect the surface, but that's more because I'm a little OCD as well as the fact that our rig is used for photos.

As far as reclining- I think you may be able to get one click. Two is doubtful. There's around an inch between the seat and the system, depending on where you bolt it down (there's a small amount of adjustability). But frankly, I wouldn't count on it. I tried to maximize the space in the system, while leaving enough room on all sides to avoid squeaks and rubbing issues.

These are the things we use for small tasks and to save excessive knife marks on the surface. For larger tasks like cleaning fish by the river we use the surface itself. Although totally unnecessary, these things are cheap and great:
