TRD Tundra Skids on 200 Series

I saw on a Facebook 200 series group that Someone had fitted a TRD Tundra Skid Plate on to their 200 series LX, and said that only 1 hole had to be drilled on the skid plate in order for it to work.

Does anyone have any additional info on this?

Looks like someone else tried LFD Tundra skids and was able to get them to fit after drilling 2 new holes

I’m not too surprised. The front tow hitch, which uses the two sides tow points to secure, fits between 200 and Tundra, and they share an engine, so the frame width up front might be quite similar.
I suspect that farther back the similarities cease, probably starting with the engine skid (first horizontal piece). But you could probably make it work.
Like has been shown, drilling a few holes to match and they’d probably work. Maybe.
Or you could just get 200 series skids, there are many options available now . . .
I have skids from four different companies on my truck, they all play nice together. I think I had to clearance one hole is all.

I’m interested in photos of the other (inside) of the skid.
The ‘bend’ area is where strikes occur in the 200. I wrecked an AL front skid last summer, interested if TRD is reinforcing this area.
 
Hope it's true. I'd love to see more options for our vehicles. More than skid plates too.

I think I read the TRD skid is .25” aluminum, but I only started looking today after seeing the FB post. I’m in agreement, the TRD skid isn’t cheaper than better proven designs for the 200….they don’t have that cool red TRD logo though.
 
Picture of the underside, I think anyways, the front doesn’t say TRD, but eBay listing has part number. There was a part number supercession, so maybe the old one didn’t have the logo.

All the Tundra skids look like they start at the lower radiator support. Doesn't bridge forward of that to the bumper. Leaving the radiator semi vulnerable to sticks poking up from below?
 
Good looking plate but it leaves a huge gap in front for all kind of junk and mud to splash into radiator and engine bay.
Is the install not complete in the pictures?

So do most of the aftermarket skids I've seen, unless you have an aftermarket bumper, and even then it is spotty whether that gap is covered.

BTW that gap is much smaller on the 200 than it is on the Tundra.

I've had two sets of Budbuilt skids on two 200 series, and they both share this design "feature". Bud built a panel for one member that fit his specific pre-2015 TJM T13, but there isn't an off the shelf solution. Then again, 30 minutes with some aluminum sheet, a jigsaw and a drill solves that problem pretty easily at a low cost.

Go buy some TRD stickers off eBay if that's your jam. You can slap them on one of several much better made skid plates.

I’d be afraid of the TRD logo as it might make the truck go too fast. :steer:

It's interesting Tundras, even stock, "feature" that giant gap underneath. I noticed after you mentioned it. I assumed they would all be enclosed like the LC and LX are. Just shows another facet of the 200-series that is further hardened than the Tundra is.
