I found out why the TRD air filter doesn't do anything, its make in Kalieforniea USA :D

After a year and four months and 25000 mi. I cleaned my TRD filter.
It wasn't very dirty. There were no bugs, leaves, acorns etc. Its is a free flow filter but I don't think it should let BIG things through it though. It might be that the OEM paper filter is white and the TRD is green. It might be that I haven't gone off road this year either :(

The cleaning kit says if you don't drive much, the filter might need reoiling if it looks like it needs it. How do you tell if it need it???

What about winter driving, when it snows the county puts tons of salt down. When the roads dry off there are clouds of salt. So much that you can taste it in the cab.
How hard is salt on the airfilter and motor. Will the TRD or paper filter do a better job of keeping salt out?

Is the TRD Filter sort of like the K&N ?? Cause on my civic, i've had it on for 4 yrs now....and recharge it every summer...boy is it dirty and lack of oil...difference in performance when its clean...seems to get on the throttle quicker..but the directions say sometimes its good to have it dirty???

When a K&N filter is dry it does a poor job of filtering dirt - period. For me 1 year would be way to long for service. I'm in AZ (lots of dust) and will service the K&N in 40 & 60 every 3 - 4 months and sometimes even after a run. I have talk with Blackstone Lab (oil testers) about K&N and it will do as good a job as OEM only if it service "properly". I use the washable OEM air filter in the 80 because I can’t see it and it's more of a PIA to service for me. If you are not going to service it regularly you might want to consider changing to the washable OEM. In terms of performance I notice no difference between the two on my SC 80.

Watch out for JUNK he hates K&N

On my other Cruiser they are open filters so you can see them on the 80 its an OEM filter can, I cant see how dirty it is without open the it up.

How do I know if I have enough oil on the filter? I put it on lightly and it spread thought the whole filter.
The instructions look like they put more on than I did. I didn't want to over oil it.

The KN filter is easyer to tell when its oiled correctly.

How much is the new washable OEM filter?

I still don't under stand how the filter can filter fine dust when you can see light through the tiny holes in the filter. I know that the oil does the work but it doesn'tmake cents (or dollars) to me.
