So they make them for the Tacoma. Do you think they'll fit the FJ Cruiser:

I sent TRD an email asking about availability dates, but they never replied. I probably should have picked up the phone and called. Would be nice if they made one for the FJ at some point.

They don't sell one for the current Tacoma, that looks like a S/C with a fram air filter with "TRD" written on it. Do you really know who "made" it? It would be cool if after 4 years they have finally developed a S/C for the 4.0.

Hmm... If they actually require custom/modified pistons, rods and, camshaft, like their prototype, it will be a very expensive upgrade!

With a factory 10.5:1 compression, you might want to do all that to your motor for longevity purposes. I bet they only run that thing at 4-6 PSI, anymore than that and I would be a bit scared about the life of the motor. But I guess most people interested in a super charger don't really care about how long the motor lasts, just how fast it is!

I've been running 12psi (supercharger) on 11.5 compression on my XRS. With stock internals. If you tune it properly nothing will happen. But then again most people just slap a turb/supercharger and don't even worry about tunning it.

12 psi?

k_os - Ya, I know a little bit about boost. I had a '87 Turbo-T (GN). Had to sell it to get the FJ. You can run those up to 28 psi with alcohol, 93 octane gas, and a good tune. Of course they are only 8:1 from the factory. I agree, if you tune it right you will be ok, but pushing 12psi on an 11.5:1 motor is going to cut the motor life in 1/2 if not more. I'm guessing you will be rebuilding that motor at 100K miles where as a stock motor should see 200K plus easy. The Buicks needed to be pulled apart and checked long before they hit 100K and they were only running 12-14 psi from the factory. To get a true 12 psi are your running alcohol? What kind of gas and what kind of timing compared to stock? That will make a huge difference. I’m just guessing that Toyota isn’t in a big rush to produce a super charger that is going to shorten the life of their motors and they probably don’t want the warranty issues as well. If they keep the psi low, the life of the motor shouldn’t be affected. To be on the safe side I’m guessing a factory supercharger kit will be set at 6 psi and moderate timing. You could reprogram the computer and swap out the pulley on the super charger to bump it up, but then you need to start thinking about more gas. Bigger injectors and a bigger fuel pump with a pressure regulator to go with it. But then if you are going to do all that, why not just have a turbo kit built for the truck? I’m just talken’ just to talk now. Your set up sounds pretty sweet. What else did you have to do to get 12psi? I’ve been thinking about putting the TRD supercharger on my wife’s ’03 Matrix XR AWD but she won’t let me near it… When it came out Toyota said they would honor the factory warranty but not on the AWD cars because the supercharger was too hard on the AWD drive train. I know my stock VVT-I motor in the matrix is only 9.5:1. Do you have the VVTL-I in the XRS? Are they still belt driven or did they switch to timing chains? Sorry for all the questions. I’ll go to bed now…

Yeah I have VVTL-I on the XRS. The "lift" is driven by oil pressure. I'm not sure if you are familiar with VVTL-i. But basically a oil pressure opens up a new set of lobes on the camshaft making the pistons go up and down basically further down. Giving you a nice 30hp boost.

Mods in ordeer to get 12psi. Hmi wasn't easy but well worth it. I have Aquamist Stage 3 Water/Methanol injection. underdrive pulley and smaller Supercharger Pulley. I also have a Hydra EMS that controls the supercharger/aquamist and the engine itself. Best 1400 I've ever spent. About the timing.. I am not too familiar with this but I believe when I tuned it with Jay Hass I believe it's retarded 2-3 degrees.. don't quote me on this,

Also I must add that I don't have the TRD supercharger on the XRS I have the Greedy supercharger, I've also had the supercharger on for 80k miles and the engine is still strong. I just checked pistons/rods/valves 15k miles ago because I wanted to get forged pistons, aftermarket rods and some new cams and they were fine but I couldn't because Ms. FJ came out and I just couldn't let it slip.

Also the XRS has to have 93 octane w/o boost. So yeah 93 octane is in there without question. I also have a custom radiator in there, had to move the alternator a little bit. Orginally this kit was developed for the celica GT-S (same 2zz-ge) so some changes had to be made..

Here's a few videos/pics

http://www.filelodge.com/files/hdd6/.../XRS_Vid_2.wmv
http://media.putfile.com/2005-Corolla-XRS-SC---DYNO <- That's the day after I installed it. WIth no boost gauge or any tunning or Stand alone ECU or W/I I was boostng about 5-6 psi back then

http://media.putfile.com/XRS-Boost-Gauge <-- Again with no tunning/ECU/and still 5-6 psi
http://media.putfile.com/H2O-_Web

After all that work I gave up and stopped documenting it. But right not I have around 9-10psi when I am out of lift and a solid WOT 12psi above 5400rpms(lift) I wanna say it hits 13 but that's just rarely.

But my engine bay went from this.

Right now I am pushing 242whp 157 lbs/ft wtq. Pretty fast little car that still gets 28mpg if I keep it out of boost/lift.

I was told that the TRD 4.0 S/C would be available for the FJ in Spring '07

Supercharger

I've been very happy with the supercharger on my 'Runner, both on and off road, very useable power...

Its a '96 Runner with a TRD supercharger. No fuel system mods, headers help along with a K&N intake...

The URD supercharger is just plain ol' messy. Everything is everywhere! The TRD supercharger is simply sweet and it looks like it belongs in the FJC. According to a thread that I read, the TRD will cost about $3k, almost half of that URD is asking for theirs, whis is about $5K. Should be ready by this coming Feb 07. Install time for the TRD is projected to be about 5 hours too. Here's the link to that thread.

How many more ponys are you getting with the supercharger on the 4 runner ? Does anyone know if a snorkle will work with a supercharger ?
