Yes, I have seen the pics. All I can say is perhaps I can lend someone a hand while I am passing through. Maybe give something back for the use of their beautiful country.

I would not hesitiate for a second to travel in Baja or anywhere else in mainland Mexico. I've made probably 8 trips in the past 4-5 years all the way into Chiapas each time as well as into Central America. We've spent most of the last two years in Guatemala without incident and I feel MUCH safer in Mexico than in Guatemala.

Baja travel

This past July we drove 4700 miles through Baja and the mainland with absolutely no problems or even hints of potential problems either mechanical or social. Many miles of dirt to Bahia Tortugas, Asuncion, San Hipolito, Obreojoas, then back to San Ignacio. Spent a marvelous day exploring the rocks and cactus at Catavina. Hwy 1 is much improved with no potholes, only narrow roadbed with steep dropoffs on either side. The roads are better in Baja Sur then Baja Norte. I agree driving at night is not an option. I would not worry about your safety any more than traveling in this country. There are places I would not drive in Los Angeles and you will recognize those in other countries too. Just use your good sense and have a wonderful trip.
