While poking around on one of my favorite tech sites wired.com I found this article detailing Land Rover's new "Transparent Bonnet". Uses a front facing camera to stream video onto the lower part of the windshield to create the illusion that you are seeing through your hood. Also has some other cool heads up display stuff going on. Really cool idea.

It took me a second to see what it was showing. That's cool.

That is very cool technology

That is the shiz...

filmed from the center view, no? I imagine if they're smart enough to pull that off that it wouldn't be distorted from a left-side (driver's position) view, would it? Indeed would come in very handy.

I can see Pullboy considering it already

Granted it is not nearly as cool, but likely a bit less expensive to just mount a rear view/back up camera on your front bumper so you can see below the hood line. I have done this on both the Piggy and the 80 for under $100 each. Currently trying to get it set up to do this with my ToughBook 18/nav computer. John

John,

Have you tried just a plain web cam via USB with the toughbook? Another option is Go Pro with VLC installed on toughbook using the Go Pro's wireless if it has it. Directions for this option are online on youtube. I've done it on my Macbook so it definitely works. This option has a 4 second delay so not great but no wires to run.

That's the plan, but I have not found an affordable web cam that is heavy duty enough to survive hanging on the front of my rig. It will have to endure many hours of solar heat along with whatever foreign objects Mother Nature wants to present.......
