Transmission shift issues

Bought a not running 1995 80 series for super cheap. Of course she’s a basket case, nothing too serious yet other than the transmission has me stumped. It will not shift on its own. Placing it in Drive is 3rd gear. But manually shifting into 1 and 2 give me the correct gear choice. Can’t find a TCM in any of the schematics I’ve found online. Any guesses?

The complete 1995 A343F unit repair manual is in the resources section. It has an extensive troubleshooting section. I'd start there. Before I started throwing parts at it.

What does "not running" mean? I assume the engine runs, or you wouldn't be shifting the transmission.
