I plan to mount volvo 303 axels on my -93 kzj70vx

Does anyone know what gear ratio the toyota has?

This is Volvo facts:

Gearbox first gear 3,85:1
second 2,08:1
third 1,39:1
fourth 1:1

Transferbox high 1:1
low 2,39:1

Axel 2,91:1

Portalgear 2,06:1

I whant to know the same facts on the KZJ so i can figure out how slow it will go.
I think axelratio is 4,3:1 but i whant to know fore sure...

Believe the axel ratio is 4.56 well it is for KZJ70's in the uk.
4.8875 is in the LJ70's, well square light later versions are.

The tranmission (R150F for KZJ70) has a slightly different ratio 1st gear then the R151F(I believe!) fited in LJ70's.

You can have a look at the VIN plate under the bonnet that will tell you the axles and transmission you have, provding no one else has swapped it already:doh:
have a look here Toyota Differential Identification: Off-Road.com

It will be 8" axles for light duty versions such as the KZJ or LJ, the code for transmission is there somwhere as well. R150F or R151F.

Should be an LSD in the back....

Hope it helps .

Martin.

Thanks, vin plate says R150F and axle code G975

G means 8" and 5 means LCD wich is correct, ratio code 97 is´nt listed in the link...

Edit:found this old thred https://forum.ih8mud.com/70-series-tech/27483-what-diff-do-i-have.html

Well thats as clear as mud;p, european only 4.56, well maybe :crybaby:
toyodiy as it listed as 4.56 for my model and I am in the UK.
Try ToyoDIY.com
And pump in your vin, you might be lucky?
I hope its right, i changed mine for an arb locker with 4.56 gears a while back:steer:

Martin

Serched whith my VIN number att toyodiy and found this:

41110-35670 KZJ7*, RJ7*; *FGR=41:9=4.555, *AXC=G975, W(LSD)
Clearer than mud:)

Thanks you all for the help!

I think it´s good that it´s less difference in gearing compered to the Volvo portal axels...

Hi Kalle.. problem is easy to solve just put a gang 42" IROKs on the axle ends and the problem is solved:bounce2:

Make sure you post up a build thread/photos/etc.

I have a set of C303 portal axles arriving in Australia from the UK in 2 weeks, to go under my HZJ78.

I plan to use larger tyres, 37 or 38's, plus higher overdrive transfer gears, and maybe a higher overdrive 5th gear in the R151F gearbox, to bring the final drive ratio back closer to normal for daily driving.

I will not be able to get it all happening until sometime next year though.
