I was thinking about flushing my transmission fluid soon, but I'm at 88k and it was done last at 40k. Should I do the flush or just a drain/replace several times over the next few oil changes, to prevent causing problems with buildup breaking free? Is 48k too long to go without replacing?

Just do the drain and fill, use whatever fluid the factory recommends for your year (I can't remember if it is T-IV or WS).

Unless you're towing the interval is longer than 48k. I can't remember if it's 90k?

Sorry for digging up an old thread. Has someone verified this interval for a drain and fill for the transmission fluid?

I typically drain the pan each oil change (every 5k) and refill an equal amount drained. My 98 has a dipstick to check level and also to refill using a funnel. I off-road, daily drive (30k/year) and tow a 1400lb trailer whenever I go camping (2x/month and multiple 2000mile round trips to CO). Probably way more frequently than necessary. But, it's easy to do on my rig. I've never "flushed" the system or replaced the filters. Pretty sure the 343f holds 12 quarts of ATF. Draining the pan usually results in 2.25-2.5 quarts.

What’s your reasoning for not changing the filter? Does the 343F come with a metal screen instead of a paper element?

Since you asked the question.....my opinion is, based on a lot of experience, there is no need to do either if you don't have a fluid problem. If its not dirty or smells burnt, no need to change. If it is either, you have other tranny issues to address. Peace of mind and enjoyment has a value and may be worth it to you for those reasons. But if you are doing it because you think clean fluid is supposed to be changed, I think that is incorrect and can and does cause more issues you otherwise didn't have.

I was thinking the same.. The last flush from Toyota was around 30k ago from the previous owner, I'm looking for a required interval from Toyota if there is any...
