Aside regarding Audi transmission...

Funny how we spend all this time nit picking over our Toyotas' trannies, about the right way to do the job, which fluid, full replace or drain/refill....

Contrast that against Audi, who tell their customers that the ATF is a lifetime fill with special ATF fluid. Never needs changing. Haaa!

The allroad in my garage will get a fluid swap at 60K like every other car I have driven.

OK, I have no idea the service history of my UZJ-100 and I just turned 60,000 miles.

Are you saying I should test the fluid on the white paper as suggested and if nothing looks burnt, just get on a 15,000 mile fluid drain rotation from here on out?

What about the filter? Is it in the pan like a GM tranny? Does it need to be dropped and changed?

Nolan, Yes and no are the answers to your questions. Yes, even though you don't know the history start changing the fluid in 15k intervals. I would highly recommend against flushing or exchanging the fluid if you don't know if it has been changed. If you got to the bobistheoilguy web site and look at the faq for the engine desludger, auto rx, it says it slowly gets rid of the sludge in the engine. You want to do the same thing with the trans, slowly. Drain and refill. You can even do it every 7500 for the first couple. As for the filter it is a normal gm looking filter except instead of filter element it has a metal screen. No need to ever change - cleaning is ok if you want to remove the pan. There is also 3 magnets in the bottom of the pan that you should clean if you take it off as well.

As for getting the pan off you usually dont need to remove the top dipstick bolt. Usually you don't have to take off any but sometimes the bottom. Just make sure you take the dipstick out.

nolan, sorry we didn't get to hook up with the 100's and wheel together in moab, oh well maybe next time.
