Will a '74 4 speed transmission bolt up to a '73 3 speed transfer? I know the 3 speed tc is 10 spline and the early 4's were 16, but I was told that a '74, being the first year of the 4 speed, had 10 splines. Is this correct? If not, does anyone know anything about the adapter? Is it a new output shaft for the trans, or different gears for the tc? Need help.

so will a 69-71 fj55 4speed bolt to the 3speed fj40 case? it looks to be 10 splines.

69-71 FJ55 was also a 3-speed, 10-spline output. 4-speeds didn't come on Cruisers until 1974, and all 4-speeds have a 16-spline output.

IIRC, the early FJ25 single speed t-case rigs had a 4-speed trans. (1958 until maybe 60-61??)

must have read it wrong.
thanks for the correction.
