I am contemplating going with a LS1 engine and tranny swap. My question is, what differences are there in the newer T-cases, like 91-97 units? Could I use one of those or would I be better off just rebuilding my T-case?

Surely this has been discussed, even from just an upgrade standpoint. Anyway, I did several searches and either came up with a ton of hits because the search was too broad or nothing because I didn't use the right search terms apparently.

The 91-97 transfer cases are full time 4 wheel drive. Sure you can convert them to part-time, but why when the one on the 62 is already part-time. I am also not sure on the mounting/bolt pattern and if there are adapter plates for them.

You would just be better off rebuilding yours. It is not hard and it will have to be split anyway to be installed to or uninstalled from a transmission.

Thanks for the info. That's just the kind of stuff I was looking for.

Later transfer cases out- put shaft exit in the center as needed for the centered diff, not found in the 62s

Keep the case. These are well built & tough cases.
