So the shifter on the transfer case tends to rattle annoyingly at certain RPM's and only noticeable in 2wd. When it gets loud enough that I notice it, simply pushing the shifter to the right (It moves at least 1/4" left to right 'slop' while in 2wd position) will make it quiet again.

Is there a guide, groove or something that would be worn? I could hook up a bunjie cord to it at a temp fix..... lol.

Any thought are appreciated!

The two plastic bushings (36305A)
PN: 36324-60050
And the spring washer 90206-16002 probably need to be replaced and the nuts holding it all together should be checked for tightness.

My transfer lever rattled too... until I replaced those parts.

you should be able to do it without dropping the case any- might even get away without lifting the trans tunnel cover...or removing the boot...

Another related cause of the transfer case shifter rattling can be the rubber boot. The boot rubber becomes stiffer over the many years since they were new. The stiff boot pushes on the shifter and is stronger than the anti rattle spring washer.

Try sliffing the boot up the shifter a little, spray some silicone on the parts and take a drive. It will likely fix the problem.
