Just back from a 3000 trip and I just drained a good 2 quarts of extar fluid from my t/c case I'm guessing its tranny fluid also my neutral indacator switch and both of my 4wd switches on the t/c case are leaking and they seam to be leaking from the plastic part of them not the threads. HELP!!!

are you sure the 2 extra quarts you drained were from the t-case.....becuase it happens the other way around.

tranny to full, t-case to low ( the norm)

you can get a an adapter from man-a-fre to fix the prob.

I also have that problem, planning on a rebuild pretty soon. When the seal between the tranny and xfer case is bad the fluid seems to migrate, in most cases that I have read about on these forums it goes from the xfer to the tranny leaving the tranny over full and the xfer low. However in my case and it seems yours too, the fluid ends up in the xfer. If there is another reason for this other than the seal, someone chime in. The adapter will only work if it is of the norm, with the transfer case low and tranny over full. It is basically a hose the connects the tranny and xfer filler hole.

Ya got a 60 or a 62? 62= tranny to transfer 60 = transfer to tranny

dd113,
I have a Oct. 84 FJ60 with a 4sp. and split transfer. I have no reason to believe that it is not the same year as the truck. Why the difference in 62 and 60 (automatic tranny)? Th

dd113 I have a 62 and just want to make sure the stock seal is the best to use. Also have you ever heard of this creating a pressure problem and damanging the switches on the t/c since they seam to be leaking or should I replace the seal and then see whats going on with the switches.

Thanks for all your responses. civil1 I live in portland where in Oregon are you?

So 62s run ATF in the tranny and 90wt in the tcase. I don't think I'd try to plumb the external equalizer tube on a 62. I'm not sure how bad the ATF is on the Tcase parts, but I'd flush and fill the tcase every 3000 miles or so to get the ATF out of it.

The ATF is in the t-case (of an FJ-62) is because of bad seals or O-rings, or over filling the tranny. To replace the seals & rings you basically need to rebuild the T-case, if it is the seal or o-ring on the output shaft of the tranny that is bad. I guess the only good thing about ATF in the t-case is that when you go to open up the inside of the case it is already clean. The switches have little metal crush gaskets and can be replaced. In almost every situation the Toyota stock gaskets and seals are the best for your car. I was comparing oil pan and head gaskets from Toyota and MAF and the Toyota ones were far superior. They will both work though. Good luck!

Fast Eddie,

I live in Keizer, just north of Salem. Hope you get it figured out, I didn't know you had a 62 with a auto tranny. Completely different scenario. :)
