Tranny Cooler What Size?

I need to put a tansmission cooler on my HJ61/12HT. I am leaning towards the TRUCOOL. What size lbs. did you use?

Big as you can fit in there. I think mine is 8X11.

I saw this post before. Just wondering if over cooling would be an issue? Would the trucool would gaurd against this?

I asked this question when I was doing mine. Per Rodney, the LandCruiser transmission expert, you can't run the transmission too cool.

Mine runs almost 200 F, during the summer, on the highway, even with the big cooler. Keep in mind that I have a custom valve body in my transmission that keeps my torque converter locked up even when I drop into 3rd gear to pull a long hill. A stock valve body will not be maintaining torque converter lock up which means you will see even higher temps. Throw a heavy load in there and the problem is compounded. This winter I noticed that my transmission would still run up to about 180 on the coldest days.

I'd do a bigger one if I was going to do it over again.

Did it make a difference in your milage having the 3rd gear lockup?

No difference in mileage, but a big difference in driveablity. I no longer worry about droping into 3rd on long hills. I recently went to 33's all the time, and they are tollerable only because of the extreme VB and 3rd lockup.

I have one of Rodney's extreme transmissions as well, so it's hard to seperate the VB mod from the whole transmission but I'd say the whole deal is one of the best things I've ever done on my truck. I don't know anybody with the custom VB that doesn't love it.

Cool I had picked up a smaller one (4 " X 11 " X3 / 4) but will go exchange it for the BIGGER one.

I have a Flex-a-lite 18000 GVWR in my wagon. Not the biggest I guess, but it wasn't very much money and it's better than nothing.

I bought it from Summit Racing a few years ago and have never had the trans light come on. I don't have a temp guage installed.
