I have recently noticed an odd occurance when driving my cruiser. When i put it in 1st and take off, with my hand still on the stick, i can feel and see thee stick rockin left to right. It does not happen in any other gear.

This is my third cruiser and i have never noticed it before but maybe i just wasnt paying enough attention.

Anyone else experience this??

The first thing to check is your motor mount. When you torque the engine it will try and rock up and to the passenger side. The mount is under the power steering unit which usually leak and eat through the rubber mount. An easy way to check it is to get your truck against something solid like a large log and have someone stand outside the truck and watch the engine as you try and climb it. If the mount is broken you will see the engine lift up off the frame. Usually under these conditions it will also cause the fan to rub the housing under sever torque.

checked it out and mounts are still good, look brand new still

Including the rear one that the transmission mount. Your description is one of the transmission rotating. The only way that happens is for one of the mount to be bad. The mount will look fine until you put pressure on it and then it will lift. Does it do it in reverse?

mine does the same thing and my trans mount is broken on the drivers side...you can see the seperation of the pad near the upper plate...mounts are like $60

only does it in 1st not reverse

where are the tranny mounts at??

Is there any serious problems that could come from this if not fixed soon??

mount located on bottom of tranny where it sits on the cross member

Mine was doing the same. Driver Side mount was broken. When all the weight of the 2F sits on the mount you can't tell if its broken or not. But as soon as i lifted the engine it seperated.

can any damage come from not replacing it immediately

Sure. If you take it off road, the extra torque in 1st/low will cause problems. It can knock the t-case out of gear or send your fan into the shroud. Most often, it's the driver side front that goes bad. Every 60 I've ever seen, that mount is bad.

You can either chain it down, or replace the mount, or both. In any case you need to address the problem. My broke completely on a trip, and a short length of chain and a long bolt to tension lasted about 6 months before I got around to fixing it.

where can i find new mount bushings and how hard is it to replace?

I got new ones for my FJ60 from Cruiserdan, but be prepared for sticker shock on the rear mount. If $$ is an issue, try replacing just the driver side front mount. Replaceing them is not necessarily an easy job, though now that I have an engine crane, it would be much safer.

You might talk to Cruiseroutfitters--Kurt is a good guy and mostly sells after market Japanese parts, which are way better quality than the usual after market Chinese parts . When I was doing my FJ40, I got the mounts from Kurt.

what would you suggest for someone with out a engine crane

You have to jack the motor up from below. You will need to loosen the passenger side when you do this. Be very careful with your fingertips.

and if its the tranny mount how might i go about replacing that one?

support the tranny with a floor jack and a wooden block and drop the cross member mount included....
