trail run/clean up idea

Count me OUT. I've got too many things to get done to prepare for the feast on Thursday.

I was a bit worried about it being so close to Turkey Day. Anyone keen to move it to a later date?

Josh,

Would you mind updating the first post on this thread with the following info?

- meeting time/place for the cleanup
- what would you like us to bring for the dinner (supplement?)
- trash dumpster avail?
- Should we bring trash bags, shovels?
- chairs, tables?

No luck on sourcing a dumpster yet. I'm not sure of the prognosis on that right now but it appears that the area we want to clean up is right on the border between FS and BLM.

It seems Saturday would be better than Sunday as far as taking the stuff directly to the transfer station. If we do a Saturday than I may be able to contact teh Buckman Transfer Station and see whether they can let us drop the rubbish off free-of-charge due to it being a volunteer clean up effort.

It does not look like we can simply leave the bags in the parking area at Old Buckman Road because the seasonal FS blokes don't work this time of year and so can't go pick up said bags.

This leaves us back where we started with the idea of each person schlepping the trash home and dealing with it later in the week.

I'm open to further suggestions. Anyone? Beuler? Beuler?

No dramas Ash-man,

However, it seems like many folks can't make it due to the proximity to Turkey Holocaust. What say you to moving it to a Saturday after Thanksgiving? This would allow us to leave the trash at the transfer station due to lack of a dumpster.

Otherwise, happy to do the meeting at our house and serve curries - everyone just bring a snack of their choice: chips, dips, appetisers, nibbles, etc. and a drink of their choice: soda, beer, white lightning, absinth, etc.

Perhaps if we only do a meeting in the afternoon folks can still make it on Sunday?

A little more time would be helpful in getting the cleanup arranged. I was given a contact name with BLM, but haven't contacted her yet. Sounds like leaving the trash in the parking area *may* be an option, but depends if BLM will pick it up. I'm sure they don't want to pick up FS trash and vice versa, so we'll see how that goes. As Josh mentioned, the landfill or xfer station might allow us to drop off without charge.

On public lands day in September, about 25 volunteers picked up 60 bags of trash just at the Buckman Diversion, so I'm sure there is plenty to do.

I'm up for a meeting visit this weekend, probably wouldn't make the cleanup.

I would be good with a later date myself although the Saturday after Turkey day isn't good for me.

Let us know what works and we can go from there.

OK, what say we do a meeting at our house at 1400 hrs on Sunday but no clean up? We can then determine a clean up day at the meeting.

All those in favour click 'reply' and bring a snack and a drink. We'll supply the curries and rice.

Josh -

Thanks for trying to pull this together, but I think it makes sense to postpone the clean-up until another time when we can have a handle on the ultimate disposal of the trash, be it dumpster or transfer station.

Having said that, I'm up for a trip to Santa Fe for a Sunday meeting at 2:00 PM. I'll watch for directions to your place later.

Thanks!
Evan

P.S. It will be just me that day from our clan - Ellen is booked with something else.

Looks like we're in as well.

Evan, wanna carpool?

You could throw in a quick run to diablo canyon w/o the trash cleanup. For those that haven't yet, a drive up 289 (Cochiti) or other parts of the Las Conchas fire area is pretty cool. Lots of black sticks, but the views are amazing. Haven't encountered any really nasty roads, but lots of small gulleys off the main roads (almost stuck an f-250 in one today).

We'll be at Boltreks'

OK, I have three so far, Jack Pressler says he's in. I'll email George as well. Can anyone put the update on the HDC website?

I'm up for a run up either Buckman or 289 sans clean up (meaning I can take the Cruiser instead of the Chevy:bounce:). Do we want to do noon then, make a little run for a few hours and then start the meeting at 1430?

Josh

You lost me at "Chevy"......????

Williams' x4. probably the meeting part only.

See y'all at 2 at our place then. email me and I will reply with our address.

Ash - sorry I've been out of touch. I'll call you today to discuss...

Our house was built in 1928, so it's a bit small. We are on the bike path though so bring bikes for the kids and we can do a run for the kids.
