Frankie, i think that's a great idea. I have thought of doing something similar, but have the back plate and the outrigger plate hug the frame with plate steel and then have a 90degree piece/tab through which you would drill a hole and pass a bolt through. THen the entire slider would clamp around the box frame.

[] except have a tab on the upper part and lower that a bolt passes through in the same plane is your pictured example.

You guys have a ton of great ideas.

I wonder if that bracket would snake by the frame and gas tank ?

What are the centers on your bolt holes ?

The centers - I think he means the distance between the holes.

I would weld a plate across the bottom of the out rigger. The problem with it is it has less forward backward strength cause it only has a top - no bottom, and the sides provide very little strength in that direction.

Yeah I was thinking almost the same thing as concretejungle said. Some thing like this. Sorry about horrible drawing but I hope it's clear :D.

Thanks man. I'm gonna get out and get the measurement as soon as I can. Yep, I agree about welding another plate across the bottom, from out to in. A gap would still be needed for the bolt, nut and washers. That's why I simply decided to leave it the way it is. If it happens again, I think I'm gonna do the same thing or get plate like Frankie might have :D.

Frankie - the material you're using looks thick enough to just tap the slider side holes, and run the bolt in from the center. Reason for doing this, at least on the bottom hole, is then you can have your outrigger be a full box cause you don't have to get a wrench in there. No lock washers, but a little lock tight would do. Doesn't get hung up on stuff as much, and gives that fore aft strength that would have prevented this damage.

I think using bolts and a back plate is a better idea than U-bolts, that way you can use grade 8 bolts - I'm guessing the U bolts aren't grade 8. Plus, then the mounting hardware (bolts) are protected from damage is you drop that part of the frame on a rock.

I did something along the same lines as concrete jungle's idea. I put a short section of angle iron on the plates. Well, so far one plate, that's all the further I got with the 40 side tracking me. Now that it's gone, and I have a chop saw, it'll proceed much faster. The reasoning for me was as much a matter of ease of construction / assembly, The angle's fit tight enough on the frame that I can just slide the plate up there and it stays.

we have a skid in the works to protect the mounts from sliding impacts that have sheer force.

these sliders are in development and thats why you see some rattle can primer on there to keep rust down durring testing.

That looks like even weigth distrabustion from all points.,,,BUT can that be snaked in between the fuel tank and frame ?

And yes we used 1/2'' colled rolled flat bar.

Don't know if it can or not, haven't gotton that far :) If the frame is clear enough of other brackets in that area, you can place it up against the frame, then slide it down into possition.

Even if you only did it only on slider side, it'd make assembly easier.
