The Trail Clean-up Day is almost upon us. We will meet at 10:00am at Little Fort Camp (aka Little Fort Recreation Area) off SR758. This is at the north end of the Peter's Mill Run trail.

While our focus will be on trail maintenance, this is a good opportunity to get a feel for how the mall crawler handles off paved roads. The trail can be easily run with a stock 4WD Toyota (however J**ps beware and Landy owners should be sure to bring along your mechanic).

Wear sturdy boots, warm clothes and a hat (dress in layers so you can regulate). Bring work gloves, water, and snacks. If you have lopers, or a cordless sawsall, bring them. We will be painting trail markers, clearing a short overgrown access road for rescue access, and putting up signs. We will need a posthole digger, one or two long handled shovels and a couple of tamping bars. Not a big deal if you forget them because the Forest Tech who will give us our instructions will have what tools we need, along with requisite hard hats. However, if we bring our own tools, someone doesn't have to run them back to the Forest Tech when we quit for the day.

Directions: From I-81: Take exit 279 and turn east on SR 675. In the center of Edinburg (T-intersection), turn left onto US 11. At north end of Edinburg, turn right onto SR 675. Follow SR 675 for 5.9 miles over Massanutten Mountain to a STOP sign at Kings Crossing (T-intersection). Turn left (north) and drive 7.3 miles to Detrick. Turn left onto SR 758 in Detrick and drive 2.7 miles to camp entrance on left.

I am planning on being there with my youngest copilot. (She's good with the Chain saw!
Just kidding I know no chainsaws)

Is the plan to start at Little Fort Camp and end at the Taskers gap end and leave from there?

I will bring what tools I can find. I have a sawsall and inverter.

Yes, the plan is to start at Little Fort Camp. I think most of the work is towards that end of the trail.

Sorry I can't make it this time around. The 80 is sans it's exhaust manifolds and y pipe (getting re-ceramic coated).

I'm sure you can catch a ride.

Guys, we are going to need more help on Sunday, please try to make it.

Come on Guys!!!
We voted to adopt this trail we need volunteers to help keep it clear.

Just 3 guys is not going to cut it.

Great day to be in the woods! Chris, Sarah, Jeff, Bob (Byers) and I put up 8 sign posts with signs and reset some existing signs that had been knocked over or removed by ATV riders who don't like to have trails closed...best way I know of to ensure they will stay closed. We also refreshed the blazes the full length of the trail.

Because we did not have enough manpower, the emergency access road did not get cleared, so we will have to schedule another work day soon. The trail closes to the public in January and reopens in March.

The NFS was very appreciative of what we got done with a relatively small crew. It was definitely harder work than previous workdays so we will sleep well tonight, and some of us will feel it in the morning.
