If real top speed is 90 and the speedo shows 72 that is a 20 percent difference. That is is much greater than any ratio of gear sets available in the market when combined with a 35 inch tire.

@bigredmachine if the speedo was that far off and you were doing 90 you'd feel no need to complain about slow performance. You'd be to busy clinching that steering with fear.

that true but it would still be showing the speedo lower than the actual speed so it may not be as bad as initially thought

Thank you all for the replies and input.

I haven't had much time to do anything with the issue, but I took it out today again and drove same stretch of road. What I realized is that I CAN get up to 85 floored..maybe more mph, but it takes a long time to get there. RPMs are at 3500-3700 seemingly and speed sloooowly creeps. I ran out of road before I could really see where it stopped.

So I guess, after retesting it's not like I can't get there, but it's a long process. I've always heard the 80s are dogs, slow, etc..so maybe I'm expecting too much.

Top speed for the fzj80 is said to be slightly over 100 mph. Yours could be less simply due to lift/tires. "Expecting too much" acceleration wise-Yeah, probably safe to say that. :p
