hi gang,

i have a '94 FZJ and in my pile of various new parts i have a new TPS sensor that i thought i'd pop on. Idle has been a little erratic and i'm pushing 200K miles so figure i'd just replace.

I have scoured this place and the FSM but have not found anything regarding a procedure to replacing the sensor.

it looked like the older 3fe engine you had to take apart a few other things and it was more in depth, but this looks like its just two screws and swap it out, but last time i removed 2 innocent looking screws...it was on the MAF, so i thought i'd double check.

thanks

The 2 screws are all that is needed to loosen/remove to swap out the TPS - simple procedure that takes a minute or two. What takes longer is adjusting the TPS for which the FSM explains the procedure...

cheers,
george.

Pages 7 and 8 on the attached document (FSM EG-286 and -287). I've also seen a procedure on YouTube where you use markings on the old one as a template for the new:

I literally have a new TPS in the mail from Beno and will be switching mine out as soon as it arrives. Keep up posted on the install and which procedure you go with!

Yeah...so, using the markings from the old TPS to align the new one did not work for me. Not even close. Based on the FSM instructions (thanks for those @Chango Blanco) the new one is significantly further to the left.

I still don't feel like its 100% dialed in (ordered a new multimeter which i needed anyway to help fine tune) but its close enough for now.

My advice would be: if your's aint broke, dont fix it.

I broke that rule and like always managed to turn a 15 minute task into an epic event (heating the screws to get them out, dropping one in the engine and having to search, screwing around with the adjustment for entirely too long etc...). All in all, it was a blow to my little banana rating and ego. I'm knocking myself down to 1 banana again.:(
