Toyota to build Wrangler competitor?

Hard to imagine they'd get it right this time around. Is sceptical optimism a thing? But seriously, this is Toyota North America CEO saying he wants body on frame for ground clearance in the rocks. That's pretty cool.

If Toyota would have a made a FJ Cruiser with manual locking hubs, manual transmission, roll up windows, no carpet, and tweaked the fuel economy a bit I bet it would have sold so many.

My big turn off was manual being all wheel drive and the terrible MPGs...otherwise I'd loved to have had one.
